When <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/madonna-jean-paul-gaultier-cone-bra-bustier-outfit-amas-1985" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Madonna</a> does just about anything, pop culture fanatics tend to find themselves in a frenzy. The most recent case of this was when the pop star was spotted at JFK on July 13 wearing the <a href="https://www.balenciaga.com/en-us/britney-spears?srsltid=AfmBOoqMVOyMm_KwybihZ7xIt7jBbG2CrGdDWid7HT7v3oJK66NnaVPG" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Balenciaga x Britney Spears</a> collaboration tee, which retails for $1,050. The collab dropped on June 3 and features a <a href="https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7qC60njH0ckUAQrA0t32Vz?si=4a47f690e49b4a0d&amp;nd=1&amp;dlsi=3bf7db63263f402e" target="_blank" rel="noopener">playlist</a> curated by <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/britney-spears-dolce-gabbana-naked-dress-2001-mtv-vmas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Spears</a> herself, which, to no surprise, features plenty of Madonna. The circulating shot of Madonna's look comes days after <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion-week/balenciaga-fall-2025-haute-couture-collection-looks-demna-gucci" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Demna</a> took his final bow at Balenciaga at <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/best-over-the-top-runway-looks-from-haute-couture-fall-winter-2025-paris-fashion-week" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Haute Couture Week</a>. But most importantly, it has left us curious about the relationship timeline between Madonna and Britney Spears.&nbsp;
We are happy to report that this was far from the first time Madonna wore a Britney Spears graphic tee while out and about. In the year 2000, the pop legend was photographed in a Britney Spears shirt that was cut up and pinned back together in true <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/gen-z-y2k-millennial-90s-fashion-nostalgia" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Y2K </a>fashion. And it was not long after that the two singers collaborated on the iconic song, "Me Against the Music" in 2003.
That same year, Madonna, Britney Spears, and <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/christina-aguilera-versace-chainmail-butterfly-dress-grammys-2000" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Christina Aguilera</a> performed at the MTV Music Video Awards, singing "Like a Virgin" together as an homage to Madonna's 1984 VMA performance. While on stage, Madonna and Spears shared a steamy kiss, which made plenty of headlines. This was especially newsworthy, seeing as Britney's recent ex at the time, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/pop-culture/britney-spears-justin-timberlake-cheating-memoir" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Justin Timberlake</a>, was in the audience. Mostly, Madonna's smooch symbolized that Britney Spears was officially crowned a pop music queen alongside her.&nbsp;
It has been a long time since the two made a public appearance together, but Madonna's recent outfit serves as a nod of respect to Spears, who was under an infamous <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/pop-culture/britney-spears-father-jamie-agrees-to-step-down-from-conservatorship" target="_blank" rel="noopener">conservatorship</a> for 14 years until 2021.
