If you thought the total solar eclipse was the last cosmological phenomenon to keep your eyes on this year, think again. On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, the full pink moon is making an appearance, and you won't want to miss it.

Unlike the total solar eclipse, which we won't see in North America for another 20 years, the full pink moon comes once a year and to see this astrological event, you won't have to travel hundreds of miles.

The full pink moon is set to rise at around 7:49 p.m. EDT and will remain visible for three days, so if you're not able to see the magnificent sight on April 23, don't worry, nature is giving you a grace period. Keep in mind, however, that while the moon will be visible for several days after its initial appearance, the full pink moon reaches peak illumination on the evening of April 23.

We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the full pink moon isn't pink in appearance. In actuality, the full pink moon will appear slightly larger than usual and will appear more golden and luminous than a typical full moon. Misleading in name, the term "full pink moon" actually deals with a seasonal association rather than the physical appearance of the lunar body.

"April’s full Moon often corresponded with the early springtime blooms of a certain wildflower native to eastern North America: Phlox subulata—commonly called creeping phlox or moss phlox—which also went by the name moss pink," the Farmer's Almanac states.

Every full moon that occurs monthly has another seasonal title, with names ranging from the Flower Moon—which takes place in May—to the Strawberry Moon—a June phenomenon. Many of these associations can be traced back to indigenous culture, where each title corresponded with natural phenomena occurring during its respective month.

For astrology fans, the full pink moon is a natural occurrence to keep on your radar, as lunar events have great significance within the spiritual and astrological realm. The full moon signals the "culmination of the lunar cycle" so "full moons and the days surrounding them are a wonderful time to release anything that's weighing you down," according to mindbodygreen. Because of the association with spring, rebirth is also a major theme during this time, so keep ideas of renewal and growth in mind as you make decisions this month. "The Pink Moon will be in Libra, and it falls during Aries season," mindbodygreen continues. "With any luck, its energy will help us balance out Aries' bold spirit with Libra's relationship-minded energy during this exciting time of year."
