<a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/pop-culture/george-clooney-young-photos-90s" target="_blank" rel="noopener">George Clooney&rsquo;s</a> highly anticipated presence at the Venice Film Festival was cut short on Wednesday, August 27, after the actor backed out of several scheduled appearances due to illness.
A representative for Clooney confirmed that the 64-year-old star was diagnosed with a sinus infection and was advised by his doctor to limit his activities. Clooney was in Venice to promote Jay Kelly, his new film directed by Noah Baumbach and co-starring Adam Sandler and Laura Dern.

The Hollywood icon was notably absent from a press junket earlier in the day and also skipped a private dinner with his castmates. Sources told <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/george-clooney-venice-film-festival-jay-kelly-premiere-1236355205/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Hollywood Reporter</a> that Clooney was seen leaving the Hotel Excelsior by boat around 4 p.m. local time, presumably to rest and recover.
Clooney&rsquo;s absence was felt among the festival&rsquo;s buzz, as the Oscar-winning actor is a longtime staple on the international circuit and a consistent draw for both fans and the press. While no updates have been given on whether he will resume appearances later in the week, his health remains the priority.
