Liam Hemsworth Sets the Record Straight About His Split with Miley Cyrus
After less than a year of marriage, Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus announced this past weekend that they have separated. A representative stated that the two "have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers." Since then, the world has been watching how Cyrus embarks on this time of growth, as tabloids and social media have documented her taking a girls' vacation with MTV's Kaitlynn Carter, which included some some not-so-platonic activity. Witnesses saw the pair kissing, and shortly after that happened, Cyrus posted a pic of her vacation glow sans wedding ring.
Carter's ex, Brody Jenner, who she married in 2018, has not been happy with the news, taking to Instagram to poke fun at Cyrus and her split with Hemsworth. He joked that he and Liam would soon debut hand-holding pics, to which Cyrus responded instructing him to "cool off" and let her enjoy her #HotGirlSummer. While Cyrus has been fairly vocal and active after the separation, Hemsworth has taken some private time. Rumors began circulating yesterday that Hemsworth was "frustrated" with his Black Mirror-starring ex, further pushing the narrative that Cyrus was being selfish after the breakup. Controversially, some even painted the former Disney star as a cautionary tale against dating bisexuals.
To add insult to injury, a recent video of the couple has lapped around social media in an attempt to further argue that Cyrus focuses too much on herself in the relationship. The video, from the Avengers: Endgame premiere, shows her posing placidly with Hemsworth only to pry his hands off as she begins her solo shots. At the time, witnesses described the move as the couple showing off their newlywed playful side, not the beginnings of trouble in paradise.
After taking the weekend for himself, Hemsworth finally took to Instagram to set the record straight. In a recent post he wished Cyrus "nothing but health and happiness," under a photo of a beachside sunset. Everyone handles breakups differently, and it appears the Australian actor has taken the peaceful, introspective route while Cyrus enjoys a highly visible adventure in Italy. The full caption reads: "Hi all. Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward. This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false. Peace and Love."
This isn't the first time the pair has called it quits in their ten-year relationship, and they have been clear to call the update a "separation" instead of a divorce, with Cyrus' rep labeling it a process and saying they are "taking this time apart." While only time (and further gossip) will tell, we can probably expect to see them back to acting cute on red carpets sooner rather than later.
