Selena Gomez Clears Up Why She Briefly Unfollowed Dua Lipa on Instagram
The Rare Beauty mogul addresses the brief Dua Lipa drama.
Earlier this June, there was a brief moment of panic circling the internet when fans noticed Selena Gomez no longer followed Dua Lipa on Instagram. (She also unfollowed Zayn Malik, Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid, and Zendaya). Of course, social media started to question what was happening and why Gomez was feuding with these stars—specifically with Lipa.
Well, the "Calm Down" singer has officially calmed down her fans as she addresses the incident. In a recent interview with Fast Company, Gomez revealed that unfollowing Lipa was a total mistake.
"It was an accident!" Gomez recalled laughing. "I was just cleaning up some of my Instagram. Then somebody called me and was like, 'What happened with Dua?!'" (Though to be clear, she did quickly refollow Lipa and Zendaya the same day).
Gomez then went out of her way to clear the air, posting herself on Instagram in a dress from the Dua Lipa x Versace collaboration the following day.
While she cleared up unintentional drama between her and Lipa (and Zendaya), Gomez has not refollowed the other celebs she unfollowed: Malik and the Hadid sisters. It is unclear why she has unfollowed those celebrities, though an inside source close to Gomez told People earlier this year “There are absolutely no hard feelings with anyone she unfollowed."
Social media drama aside, Gomez has remained booked and busy this year. First, there was the release of Season 3 for Only Murders in the Building which has unsurprisingly been with the utmost praise. So much so, that the series has recently been announced to be renewed for another season.
Gomez has also been busy working on her new album, her first in three years. She just released her single, "Single Soon," teasing fans about what is to come on the longer lineup.
"I love sad-girl music; I’m really good at that," she told Fast Company. "However, I can’t really write that if I’m not sad. I’ve had to relearn what being me and being happy looked like. There is not one sad song on this whole album."
She continued, "I’ve never promised anyone that I’ll never have a bad day again. "I’ve always been honest with my fans. Even when I take breaks from social media, I’ll say I’m taking a break."
