His Early Life
Born in 1990, Tom Ackerley grew up as the youngest of three brothers in his family's home in Surrey, England. From 2001 to 2004, Ackerley was an extra in the first three titles of the Harry Potter film saga—a fact that had his future wife in shock.
As a young teenager, Ackerley attended St. George's College Weybridge, before moving on to study at Godalming College—a school located around 30 miles southeast of London.
His Career
After graduating from Godalming College, Ackerley entered the film industry and began working behind the scenes, first as a floor runner, then as a production assistant and assistant director, and later in his career, as an executive producer. Ackerley's major credits include Barbie, I, Tonya, and Promising Young Woman, where he was a producer, and 2023's It film, Saltburn, where he was an executive producer.
Shortly after meeting his future wife, the pair founded a production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, along with Sophia Kerr and Josey McNamara, who are friends of Ackerley and Robbie. Since its creation, the company has produced films—many of them starring Robbie—including I, Tonya, Barbie, and Promising Young Woman.

Tom Ackerley met Margot Robbie on the set of a World War II drama, Suite Française, back in 2013. As an assistant director and actress, their paths inevitably crossed and the two became fast friends, which later turned to romance.
“I was the ultimate single gal. The idea of relationships made me want to vomit. And then this crept up on me," Robbie said in a 2016 interview with Vogue."We were friends for so long. I was always in love with him, but I thought, Oh, he would never love me back. Don’t make it weird, Margot. Don’t be stupid and tell him that you like him. And then it happened, and I was like, Of course we’re together. This makes so much sense, the way nothing has ever made sense before.”
The couple tied the knot in 2016 at a private ceremony in Australia and have been happily married since. In July 2024, reports that the pair were expecting emerged, and were quickly confirmed when Robbie was photographed in a bold crop top that exhibited her pregnancy. A source close to the couple revealed to People that both Ackerley and Robbie “wanted to start a family for quite some time. They've been keeping it under wraps for a while but are happy the news is out.”
