Precious can describe material things, such as valuable metals and gemstones, but relationships are equally worth cherishing. Loved ones can usher us through difficult times and offer stability when life feels unsteady. They help us learn more about ourselves and the world and grow as human beings. Our greatest triumphs and accomplishments would not be possible without a strong support system full of people who inspired and encouraged us along the way. As 2024 comes to a close, L’OFFICIEL put out a call to its community to reflect on those people most precious to them.

A handwritten note is an antidote to the chaos of modern life, when we’re glued to a smart phone for our communication, mainly via texts or DMs. Taking the time to handwrite a letter is an intimate way of maintaining connection that’s largely fallen out of favor. It is a tangible way to express our sentiments about those closest to us, giving them a piece of us that they can hold onto forever.

We’re using this moment to celebrate handwritten, from-the-heart missives. Jewelry designer David Yurman wrote a heartfelt note to his wife, marveling at her brilliance and creative finesse. Fashion designer Naeem Khan expressed the way his late father colored his life and kept him balanced. J.Crew men’s designer Brendon Babenzien mentioned his appreciation for his family, as well as rock band The Cure’s new studio album. Actress Cazzie David described the beauty of gardening, a pastime she picked up from her mom. Fashion designer Willy Chavarria wrote to God, while artist Tschabalala Self penned a note to herself stressing the importance of the support she has received from her friends and family.

From notes to dear friends to letters to family to larger wishes for their communities and the world at large, these handwritten messages offer a reminder to us all to celebrate what’s truly precious. Keep scrolling to see fashion designers' and artists' handwritten wishes going into 2025.
