Fashion Brands Presenting at Milan Design Week 2023
From the A of Armani to the Z of Zegna, fashion houses are capitalizing on Milan Design Week as an opportunity to show another side of their designs.
Armani, Dior, Hermès, Bottega Veneta, Loewe, Dolce&Gabbana, Prada and Versace. Between April 18-22, they are all present for Milan Design Week. Fashion is showcased and measured with materials, concepts, and projects of sharing and communication to expand and contaminate the space for conversation with the public. The trend of the fashion events during the FuoriSalone was guided by the application of the savoir-faire of materials on forms of use other than the traditional dressing of the body, that of habitable spaces. With truly intriguing results. But real fashion won't stop even in these frenetic days. We point out that during the DW circularity projects will come to life to mark on the agenda. Valentino returns, from 18 to 23 April, with the Vintage project during the design days. Finally, during the design days, Shop The Story, one of the most popular pre-loved realities in the designer second-hand panorama, also lands in Milan. From Thursday, April 20 to Saturday, April 22 in via Stoppani 17 it will be possible to select and purchase rare pieces from six European archives: from Comme des Garçons to Margiela, Dries Van Noten, Gucci by Tom Ford, Helmut Lang. Happy tour.

A journey through the woods in search of Aliita's Amanita
As from night to day, as from hypha to mycelium, as from threads to weave, as from wind to mushroom. The dreamlike vision of Aliita returns, an eclectic jewelry brand created in 2015 by Cynthia Vilchez Castiglioni, a designer sensitive to the celebration and enhancement of workers, gathered here in contemplation of an authentic miracle of nature, life. Aliita's Amanita is born in the deepest darkness of the night, intertwining between filaments of irony and unexpected perspectives. A thread of light just lets us glimpse a narrow circular path, where even the most abstract dreams take shape. A world where the particular and the different coexist, a colorful universe from the new Amanita jewelry collection by Aliita. Between nine-karat gold mushrooms and white ceramic mushrooms. Those made by Alessandra Modarelli and Margherita Pozzali.

Armani/Casa opens Palazzo Orsini
In dialogue with the city of Milan, Giorgio Armani opens the doors of Palazzo Orsini, the company's historic headquarters, to the public at the Salone del Mobile for the first time to present the latest additions to the Armani/Casa collection. On this occasion, it will be possible to discover the new outdoor collection in the secret garden and, continuing along the route inside the historic building, some preciously crafted furniture displayed in the prestigious frescoed rooms on the first floor. The atelier of the Giorgio Armani Privé haute couture collection therefore partially leaves room for the design of Armani/Casa, in the sign of the continuity of a style that is coherent in fashion as in furnishings, because the attention to the material, the artisan care of the realization, the sense of a light, refined and therefore recognizable preciousness are identical. To complete synesthesia according to King Giorgio, the mixology project by Armani/Bamboo Bar with the Design Cocktail Collection available until 23 April. The card, made up of six specially created drinks, is an evocative journey inside Palazzo Orsini, the historic headquarters of the Maison.

Come and See by Gaetano Pesce for Bottega Veneta
From 15 to 22 April, the Bottega Veneta boutique in Montenapoleone becomes an evocative and immersive space to enter. Come and See is the title of the installation created by Gaetano Pesce, sculptor, designer, and architect from La Spezia world-famous and with which Matthieu Blazy, Creative Director of the Italian Maison, has started an important artistic dialogue. From the series of chairs How are you? created by the master for the brand's Spring/Summer 2023 fashion show, continues by opening a new phase of exploration. "The space in which we present the bags is ‘a grotto’. It is narrow and is walked through one by one, whether it is underground or above, you find a way through. What you are actually walking through is the outline of a figure shooting for a basket. He represents almost a victory – it is not clear whether it goes in. In this case, the victory is discovery, the discovery of the language of representation. It is about opening new ways for design."

Diesel Living with Moroso
The Diesel Living with Moroso pop-up opens on April 18 and will remain open until May 20 to leave a lasting and concrete mark on the interior concept that underlies the ecosystem of the most irreverent brand ever. Already from the windows of the spaces in Via Spiga 26, in the heart of the Quadrilatero, you will understand the vibes: from the most iconic and dynamic models of the Diesel Living collection, all in red and arranged in a fun-house style, you pass from the energetic red to the proposals most classic in the Diesel Living world. The Diesel Living with Lodes lighting collection evolves in a more elaborate and artisanal direction with Magic Mushroom, a table lamp whose shape recalls the retro blown glass lamps of the '70s, and Reglobe, in a retro '60s style. Then there is the '90s vibe of UFO, with a minimal design, for a retro-futuristic atmosphere.

Dolce & Gabbana Home
More is more and more to come. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana return to the design spotlight with a dual project that sees them involved not only in the role of designers but as real mentors. The Gen D Project was born from the precise desire of the Founders to translate into the field of furniture the same openness towards the future that the company has demonstrated over the years, actively supporting the talent of young people. A journey, therefore, destined to continue over time with the aim of creating cultural bridges between the company's generous creativity and its ties with Italy and the rest of the world. Curator of the residency Federica Sala who selected ten designers from different geographical areas happily poised between different worlds. Depending on the previous skills and individual wishes, the designers were put in a position to deal with Murano blown glass, Sicilian ceramics, metal carpentry, cabinet making, the craftsmanship of terracotta, wicker, fine wrought iron to metal castings, and the very rare technique of enameling on metal. But that's not all. interior side Dolce & Gabbana Casa presents two new collections at its headquarters in via Broggi, rigorous DG Logo and graphics in black and white and 24K Gold, a tribute to the maximalism of the Baroque that is all to behold.

Marco De Vincenzo's debut for Etro Home Interiors
Color and fabric, founding characteristics of Etro, are the undisputed protagonists of the Etro Home Interiors 2023 collection, Diving Into Pattern, the first by Marco De Vincenzo. An explosion of patterns ranging from blue to green to earth tones, in which the Pluma jacquard fabric stands out for its character and importance. The two founding themes of Etro are found in the Dahlia armchair, a piece of furniture with contemporary lines that takes inspiration from the design of the Milanese brand. But the whole look of the Etro proposals, which can be visited in the boutiques of Montenapoleone, Pontaccio and in the showroom in Via Spartaco, unite four décor worlds linked to the history, the logo, the iconography, and the figurative inspiration of the Maison on materials such as porcelain, wood, metal, and precious fabrics. Finally, the collaboration with the American artist Amy Lincoln sees the Woven Spectrum installation in the historic Etro Home boutique in Via Pontaccio, a series of jacquard cashmere blankets in which the connection with nature through drawings of leaves, trees, waves, and clouds evokes a dreamlike and romantic poetic.

Fendi Casa Boutique, from fashion to design
The Fendi Casa boutique, with a special set-up of windows and a site-specific installation that recalls the arch, celebrates the innovations of its interior world declined by fashion references. Two furnishings worthy of note: the Blown sofa created by Controvento, a tribute to the history and craftsmanship of the Roman Maison, and the Ottavia seat by Cristina Celestino. The first is a sophisticated and playful reinterpretation of the Pequin striped pattern launched in 1983 that offers a timeless and versatile modular system, enriched by precious details with a sartorial flavor. The second is a tribute to the eternal city, Rome, an inexhaustible source of inspiration.

The essential beauty of Hermès
The simplest forms are the most sophisticated, therefore the most beautiful. The absolute concept of beauty is therefore the core on which the Hermès interior project is shaped, which returns to Milan in the Pelota spaces in via Palermo on the occasion of the 2023 Design Week. The creations draw their aesthetics from a form of archaism, natural vigor, and purity. Thus, unlike previous editions, the exhibition scenography becomes thinner and smaller, eliminating any excess to show itself, naked, in a graphic frame of iron rods and concrete. Through a play of textures and lines that create the void, the structure thus becomes radical and powerful. In the furniture, the armchair combines leather and wood, the 1930s chair is revisited, and the sofa takes on a timeless silhouette. The Maison's savoir-faire thus crystallizes around exceptional elements: glass blowing for the minimalist lamps, traditional upholstery for the simple and refined chair, or masterful hand embroidery for the carpets with graphic motifs.

Issey Miyake's Nature Architects
By integrating the latest design solutions by Nature Architects with the production systems of A-Poc Able Issey Miyake, the new chapter of the project, a dialogue of collaborations with creatives involved in the research and experimentation of the use of "a piece of cloth" sees the use of DFM (Direct Functional Modeling) design algorithms adapted and applied to the Steam Stretch technique of A-Poc Able Issey Miyake to explore the design and design process. Compared to the conventional method of creating clothes, in which the various parts that go to make up a garment are first cut separately and then sewn together, the integration of meta-materials in the A-Poc system allows for a variety of pleats and processes that previously could not be realized. In the via Bagutta boutique, visitors see its mutation applied to furnishings, lighting, or architecture from a prototype jacket.

UNPUBLISHED/ASNAGHI for Jacob Cohën Secret Shapes Collection
Slowly perceptible “secret” details that in a crescendo of style tell of quality, timeless elegance, luxury, and Made in Italy. The power of denim, an indestructible fabric by definition, here becomes malleable and soft to the touch, worked by those who love it, as in the INEDITO/ASNGHI for Jacob Cohën – Secret Shapes Collection on display during the Design Week at the Jacob Cohën store in Milan in Via della Spiga 29. A LOTO armchair, a CRONO coffee table, a MELLIFERA chest of drawers, a ROMEO bedside table, and a CHARLES screen, made by mixing denim with other iconic materials such as leather, pony hair, and brass embrace the sinuous lines of the Nimes.

Loro Piana Interiors looks to Argentina
Apachetas are piles of stones that usually mark paths and passages in the Andes. Traveler after traveler, stone after stone, they grow up to become imposing towers: from the earth, they rise to the sky like a prayer made of irregular rocks. This is how Loro Piana Interiors welcomes the new project by Argentine artist and designer Cristián Mohaded, through an installation inside the Cortile della Seta, the Loro Piana headquarters in Milan, transformed for the occasion into a dreamlike landscape inspired by tradition Andean that has always accompanied travelers. Twelve towers, eight meters high, irregular, angular, and apparently unstable, are covered with Loro Piana Interiors fabrics from old collections to come back to life. The landscape of the apacheta thus becomes an invitation to dialogue on sustainability and the possibility of reusing waste materials, giving them a completely new value. In the center of the courtyard sofas, poufs, benches, and courtesy tables, they look like stones softened by the use of fabrics and hand-carved wooden elements. Two outdoor installations are also planned in Piazzetta Brera and in via Montenapoleone 27, in the courtyard of the Loro Piana boutique.

Louis Vuitton: three projects at Palazzo Serbelloni
Also this year Louis Vuitton returns to Milan for the Design Week to amaze and does so within the spaces of Palazzo Serbelloni with three distinct projects, however connected by a common gaze. The beauty, the savoir-faire, the wonder. It starts from the courtyard of the Palazzo with Nomadic Pavilion, a format that returns in a futuristic guise with the intriguing and walkable structure designed by the French architect Marc Fornes. We then move on to the Louis Vuitton Objets Nomades collection, made up of creative and functional furniture and objects which from 2012 to today now boasts 60 pieces signed by internationally renowned designers. For the 2023 edition the 11 new Objets see alternating Atelier Biagetti, Studio Campana, Atelier Oi, Zanellato/Bortotto, Marcel Wanders, Raw Edges, and Studio Louis Vuitton in amazing workings of the stylistic features of the Maison applied to the interior context. Finally, the third project. Cabinet of Curiosities by Marc Newson sees the classic trunk in Monogram canvas become an authentic chest of wonders with 19 leather containers inside that can be combined in over 1000 different ways to store and display the dearest objects. Unmissable.

La DoubleJ's maximalist patterns dress the most iconic toilets in Milan
Isn't it said that the bathroom of a club, a restaurant (as well as that of a house) is the litmus test of the entire interior design vision? The environment with which to decree the completeness and coherence of the character of a place? JJ Martin, therefore, focuses, in perfect balance between eclecticism and divertissement, on a take-over operation of the toilets of 10 iconic Milanese venues that are much loved and frequented. Thus the bathrooms of Pasticceria Cucchi, Pasticceria Cova, Giacomo Bistrot, Giacomo Rosticceria, Apophis Club, Fioraio Bianchi Café, and Vasiliki Kouzina will be lit up and flourished with the good vibes of wallpapers, a new entry in the full pattern ecosystem imagined by the designer and American journalist transplanted in Italy.
Marimekko, when art elevates the everyday
Marimekko presents her latest artistic collaboration with Barcelona-based German artist Sabine Finkenauer. The 16-piece capsule collection is presented in a conceptual and abstract installation in the spaces of the Galleria II Milione where the entire creative process, from the sketches of the works of art to the final products, will act as a leitmotif. But the reading also expands to another interesting concept, that of letting art elevate everyday objects. Celebrated for her geometrically accurate and rhythmic artwork, Sabine Finkenauer uses the simplicity of everyday subjects and forms resulting in a meticulous interplay of representational and abstract expression.

Prada Frames' "Materials in Flux"
Prada Frames is also back, the multidisciplinary symposium curated by Formafantasma, which investigates the complex relationship between design and the environment. The Milanese appointment follows the edition of Prada Frames which was held in Hong Kong, at the M + museum, at the end of March, an excellent opportunity to catch up. Dedicated to the theme “Materials in Flux," Prada thus chooses to promote a reflection whose ethical and aesthetic implications – from unprecedented creative potential to low-impact production perspectives opened up by the use of innovative recycled materials – have long been central to its research. The works of the symposium are based on the studies of the British anthropologist Tim Ingold, according to which matter is a living entity, interconnected and in eternal change, and intend to explore the concept of waste, investigate the dynamics that regulate waste infrastructures and their value systems and analyze the complex relationship between matter and ecosystems. Six sessions over three days, from 17 to 19 April – bring together scholars and professionals from different fields of research on the stage of the Teatro Filodrammatici, one of the oldest theater institutions in Milan, located a few steps from the Teatro alla Scala and from Piazza Duomo. Free admission, subject to availability, upon registration on prada.com.

Visual merchandising experience with Tommy Hilfiger and Spazio Meta
In the spaces of the new concept store in Piazza Oberdan, a creative laboratory open to the public offers the possibility of creating an interpretation of the Tommy Hilfiger Spring 23 collection through sustainable settings and original installations. The design of two shop windows will give life to three completely sustainable, one-of-a-kind installations and will open up new horizons for making visuals in the near future. Versace Home, the home according to Donatella Versace
Versace Home is the protagonist at the Salone del Mobile and at the Milan Design Week with the new collection of furnishings and accessories designed under the creative direction of Donatella Versace. The new chapter of this project pays homage to the iconic codes of Versace, the common thread between fashion and furniture, declined in a contemporary key. Thanks to the partnership of the duo of architects and designers Ludovica and Roberto Palomba with the Maison della Medusa, the synthesis of the soul of the brand can already be seen in the preview of the Discovery sofa, where the herringbone pattern with visual references to the V of Versace comes with a fabric or leather upholstery. The cushions then have the double role of backrest, also reclining, and a comfortable cushion. The bench version can be transformed into a modern chaise-longue. Created in collaboration with the Luxury Living Group, the collection can be discovered in the boutique on Via Durini.
