As of late, brown lip liner has been all the rage on social media. The trend is not new by any means. In fact, the brown lip liner and nude/glossy lip look became popularized decades ago thanks to Black and Brown communities. Since as early as the 1920s, people of color have used brown lip liner to highlight their features and, for decades, received backlash. It wasn't until the 90s, when White celebrities adopted the look, that it entered the mainstream. But the real pioneers of this trend in the '90s, like Naomi Campbell, Janet Jackson, and Lauryn Hill, set the stage for this new resurgence.

Recently, the trend has been re-popularized by Hailey Bieber in what was coined "brownie glazed lips." Her take on the longstanding cultural phenomenon accentuates the outline of the lips and blends seamlessly into a nude or glossy center. This trend leaves room for tons of experimentation. Your lines can be as exaggerated as you so desire, some layering on the pigment and others opting for a more subtle outline. You can also pair the distinct outline with different lipstick shades for a completely unique look. The options are endless.

But if you need some inspiration from some of your favorite celebrities of today, look no further. L'OFFICIEL has you covered with all the best takes on the brown lip liner beauty trend.
