Eyebrows frame your face and enhance your features. Whether you love rocking a thin brow or are fully on board with the fluffy brow trend, you've likely put some time and effort into sculpting the perfect brow. Eyebrow microblading is one of the hottest ways to achieve fabulous brows. This in-salon procedure has become popular in recent years, but if you're still on the fence, we've got what you need to know about microblading and what you can expect.

What is Eyebrow Microblading?

Eyebrows microblading is a brow technique done in a beauty salon that uses a superfine row of needles to deposit pigments into the skin. The effect creates thin, hair-like strokes ideal for replicating the look of a full, perfectly groomed brow. Microblading is not a tattoo, with the strokes implanted much lighter into the skin than traditional tattooing.

Microblading is ideal for people who don't have time to do their eyebrows with a pencil or powder every morning, or those with thin brows who want the appearance of fuller ones. People with oily skin aren't ideal candidates for eyebrow microblading, since the pigment won't stay in the skin as long as usual.

How Long Does Microblading Last?

Microblading can last up to two years, depending on your skin type and level of sun exposure. The products you use can also play a role in how long your microblading lasts. Many people opt to get touch-ups once a year to keep the pigment looking fresh. If you have oily skin, you might need to get touch-ups more frequently, maybe twice a year. This is because the ink could fade a bit faster when on oily skin. Other than touch-ups, microbladed brows don't require any special care or attention.

What to Expect During Your Microblading Appointment

Before your microblading appointment, avoid plucking or tweezing your brows, so the brow technician can base your new shape on existing measurements. Follow your technician's guidance on specific skincare products to avoid. Many technicians will recommend steering clear of products with retinol or acid since they can irritate the skin, which isn't ideal before an eyebrows microblading procedure.

During your appointment, your technician will ask you questions about your preferred brow shape before taking some measurements of your face. Once a design is approved, your technician will numb the area and start applying strokes of pigment. Following the microblading procedure, the technician will give instructions for aftercare and schedule a follow-up appointment for touch-ups, usually about four to six weeks after the initial procedure.
