With over 16 million views on TikTok, "hair slugging" is the latest beauty trend taking over the internet.

"Hair slugging" is the latest beauty trend to take over <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/beauty/tiktok-beauty-trends-that-actually-work-makeup" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TikTok</a>. Though it may seem like a complicated process, the hair slugging trend is actually simple, consisting of applying an <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/beauty/benefits-hair-oil-products-for-smoothing-styling" target="_blank" rel="noopener">oil</a> or Vaseline to your <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/beauty/how-to-get-french-girl-hair-guide" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hair</a> at night, wrapping them with a sock or t-shirt (so that your hair is completely covered), and then removing the following day.
"The trick does bring benefits to the hair, mainly ensuring moisture retention," explains Dr. Jaqueline Zmijevski, a dermatologist with the Brazilian Society of Dermatology.

According to Dr. Zmijevski, the use of vegetable oil in the hair brings many benefits: it helps in the replacement of lipids (good fat that nourishes the hair cuticles) by improving their alignment and shine. &ldquo;This manifests itself in better manageability, shine, and combability. Vaseline, on the other hand, helps to retain moisture in the hair, improves lubrication, and reduces friction when combing, thus improving <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/beauty/hair-anti-frizz-salon-treatments" target="_blank" rel="noopener">frizz</a> and disguising split ends," comments the doctor.
Dr. Zmijevski explains that the logic behind using the sock is that the cotton material reduces the friction of the hair on the pillow, preventing breakage, frizz, and product dispersion. "As long as it is not used with traction or too tight, the stocking does not cause problems and does not predispose to breakage of the hair," explains the dermatologist.

The hair slugging trend serves all hair types. &ldquo;It can be done once or twice a week, according to one's needs. In addition to hair slugging, you can also interchangeably use deep conditioning masks. This will <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/wellness/how-to-use-rice-water-hair-care" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hydrate</a> the hair, while hair slugging will help with retaining that moisture," explains Dr. Zmijevski, who recalls that the technique can be used after washing the hair (and even without washing it). Below, she explains how to do it:

 <li style="text-align: left;">Apply the oil or Vaseline evenly along the entire length of the hair.</li>
 <li style="text-align: left;">Wrap your hair and place the ponytail inside the sock so that it is comfortable to wear overnight.</li>
 <li style="text-align: left;">Leave the treatment on the hair overnight.</li>
 <li style="text-align: left;">The next day, remove the sock and style as preferred.</li>
