Nails, though? They&rsquo;ve often been the unsung detail&mdash;easy to miss when garments are loud, silhouettes are architectural, and a model&rsquo;s headpiece alone could fill your peripheral vision.&nbsp;
But on the Fall/Winter 2025 runways, nails are finally getting their moment. Enter: fur nails.&nbsp;

Yes, it&rsquo;s exactly what it sounds like&mdash;sort of. Designers aren&rsquo;t using real fur. Instead, nail techs are creating the illusion with flocking powder, applied to wet polish or a tacky base coat to mimic a fuzzy, velvety texture.&nbsp;
It&rsquo;s as unexpected as it is impractical. Typing? Good luck. Doing your skincare routine? Probably not happening. And even if you find a nail tech willing to attempt the look, prepare for at least one raised eyebrow.&nbsp;

During the <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/fall-winter-trends-runway-shopping-influencers-prada-alaia-chloe">Fall/Winter 2025</a> New York Fashion Week presentations this February, a handful of viral beauty moments made headlines. Designers and stylists pushed boundaries with their hair and makeup, experimenting with looks that hadn&rsquo;t been done before&mdash;going far beyond the usual bleached brows and black lips. It was fashion week, after all. What would it be if not a little unhinged?&nbsp;
<a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion-week/luar-spring-summer-2025-nyfw-looks-runway-madonna">Luar</a>, in particular, sent models down the runway with furry, feathery nails. <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/beauty/celebrity-nail-artist-mycah-dior-interview-cynthia-erivo-manicures">Celebrity nail artist</a> Naomi Yasuda designed the fuzzy detail on three-inch-long square-shaped extensions, topped with crystals for an extra dose of drama.

The best part about Luar&rsquo;s fur nails? They echoed the collection&rsquo;s texture play: a full-blown <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/audrey-hepburn-feathery-red-givenchy-dress-cfda-fashion-awards-1989">feather-filled fantasy</a>&mdash;from dramatic, grandeur headpieces to clutches and coats.

While stylists didn&rsquo;t embrace fur nails the way Luar did, makeup artist Isamaya Ffrench offered her own take on feathery details. Most, if not all, models walked down the runway with colorful, feathered eye makeup that resembled bird-like lashes, echoing Browne&rsquo;s aviary-inspired vision and his flight of fantasy for the season.&nbsp;

Although wildly unfamiliar to most until now, fur nails aren&rsquo;t exactly a new concept. In fact, they first hit the runway at <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/backstage-at-libertine-fall-2018">Libertine&rsquo;s</a> Fall/Winter 2016 show. And who was behind them? None other than CND co-founder Jan Arnold. At the time, they barely made headlines&mdash;only those deep in the fashion or beauty trenches even clocked it. By Spring/Summer 2017, fur nails appeared just once in a single Libertine look, and then quietly disappeared. They may have popped up in a few niche shows here and there, but none made the same impression as that original Libertine moment.&nbsp;
But this fall, they&rsquo;re clearly making a comeback. Don&rsquo;t be surprised if your most fashion-obsessed friend is sporting some fur nails with a martini in hand the second the temperature drops to 50.
