Referencing the Beginning in Hermès' Fall/Winter 2023 Collection

The equestrian-inspired show recalled the house's conception.

Iconic French Maison Hermès consistently values timelessness over trend. Refined elegance and impeccable craftsmanship, the house's experimental endeavors stay true to its mission. In 1940, the New York Times wrote, "[Hermès] is perhaps the only establishment in the world in which one cannot buy a single article that is not in perfect taste." Founder Thierry Hermès originally specialized in saddle wear, marking the Maison as firstly a creator of objects. Appointed in 2014, creative director Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski continues this sentiment in her designs.

Taking place in a desert-colored and water-ripple-filled space, Hermès' most recent collection references the late founder with equestrian-inspired creations. From riding caps to quilted coats, Cybulski's designs invoke the house's intention to constantly construct pieces that are contemporaneously modern and timeless.

The brand acquires a new theme each year to reflect the artistry and experimentation of the creative directors. Each season, "the vocabulary of shapes, the palette of colors, and the combinations of materials are enriched and renewed" according to the Maison's values. For the Fall/Winter 2023 collection, the brand seems focused on wearability

Monochromatic looks stole the show in this collection. With attention to texture, the neutral plus red color palette alluded to the elegance contingent with the brand. Tall, sleek boots, beautifully crafted sweaters, and dresses with exquisite silhouettes were some of the motifs present throughout the show. Referencing Thierry Hermès accompaniment with leather saddle crafting, Vanhee-Cybulski's collection renews this attitude throughout her wearable designs.
