Jason Wu Kicks Off New York Fashion Week with Fall/Winter 2021 Collection
This time last year, New York Fashion Week was in full swing, a week of nonstop shows, presentations, events, and after parties. Now, nearly a year into the pandemic, things are a bit more quiet. While most collections are now being presented via lookbooks and livestreams, Taiwanese-Canadian designer Jason Wu opted to show his Fall/Winter 2021 collection in person. The intimate show took place in an empty retail space in Noho, and invitations were printed on customized Coca-Cola bottles.
The designer combined his two loves for the collection: food and fashion. The runway was surrounded by baskets of fresh fruit and vegetables, which after the show were donated to City Harvest, a non-profit that delivers food to New Yorkers in need. Cooking was a source of inspiration for Wu while in lockdown, and the collection was punctuated by a subtly nostalgic Americana via fabrics printed with vintage Coca-Cola bottles. Blouses appeared alongside tailored trousers, skirts and dresses in Wu's signature colorful floral prints, and heavy coats and jackets.
