Get Ready With Kelly Wearstler For the Dior Spring/Summer 2024 Show
See how the renowned interior designer gets ready ahead of the Dior Spring/Summer 2024 show during Paris Fashion Week.
Even for those outside of the interior design world, the name Kelly Wearstler has instant recognition—a feat that isn't easy to achieve in an industry where such well-known names rarely catch mainstream attention. A celebrity in her own right, the designer joins all of our other favorite A-listers currently in attendance at Paris Fashion Week. On Tuesday, she enjoyed the fashion-filled affair fronting the Dior Spring/Summer 2024 show.
From showcasing her Dior dress to her Dior Beauty makeup look, Wearstler gives L'OFFICIEL an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at how she prepared for the Dior runway show. She also shares her favorite Dior moments and how she bridges the gap between fashion and design in her work.
L'OFFICIEL: How does Dior fit into your personal style?
Kelly Wearstler: I express boldness with my wardrobe in a way that Dior captures. I’m drawn to strong silhouettes – I like to experiment with unconventional layering and shapes, and I respond to clothes that tell a story and mix historical references with a contemporary attitude.
L'O: How do you incorporate fashion into your design work? Or design elements into your style?
KW: I find that embracing dichotomies in both interiors and dressing puts creativity at the forefront. I believe you can find synchronicity within two seemingly opposing elements – old and new, masculine and feminine, raw and refined.
L'O: If you could relive any Dior designer era, what would it be?
KW: Today is about the power of the female and the confidence of the Dior woman is so inspiring to me.
L'O: How was the Dior show? What were some of your favorite moments/looks?
KW: The show was amazing and very sexy. It was feminine but there was a cool factor. I loved the
sheer and the structured silhouettes, and the shoes and boots.
L'O: Who’s the most interesting person you’ve met during fashion week?
KW: Daytona Williams, [founder of] Neptune Papers. Meeting him in person.
L'O: If your phone died in the middle of fashion week, what would you do?
KW: I’d be at the closest Apple store.
L'O: Have you ever had a celebrity encounter that left you starstruck?
KW: When I met [architect and designer] Phillippe Starck in Milan.
L'O: What’s a fashion trend that you regret trying?
KW: I don’t regret – it’s all about experimentation.
L'O: Finish this sentence: No look is complete without
KW: A pair of shades.
