Celebrities Channeled Every Type of Barbie at the 'Barbie' Premiere
The red carpet was everything — even with the Kens.
This summer has been officially deemed the summer of Barbie. From the endless Barbie-inspired collaborations and marketing campaigns to Margot Robbie’s press tour outfits referencing real-life Barbie dolls, it would be an understatement to say the Barbie movie is one of the year's most anticipated films. Ahead of the release date on July 21 was the Los Angeles premiere on Sunday, which the celebrities gave Barbiecore galore on the red carpet.
The main Barbie of the hour, Robbie, stepped out in a black strapless gown by Schiaparelli Haute Couture, referencing the 1960 "Solo in the Spotlight" Barbie doll. She accessorized with long black opera gloves, peep-toe heels, a sequin choker, and a sheer pink handkerchief. Robbie wasn’t alone in shutting down the red carpet.
Issa Rae stunned in a custom figure-hugging gown by Marc Bouwer featuring a keyhole cutout. Director Greta Gerwig brought peak Barbiecore in a bright pink monochromatic number by Valentino. While Dua Lipa opted for a non-pink moment, she still sparkled in a sheer dress by Bottega Veneta.
All eyes may have been on the Barbies, but the Kens also held their own, respectively. Ryan Gosling gave major "Kenergy" in a light pink suit by Gucci. Michael Cera matched Gosling in a pink Richard James suit of the same shade. Simu Liu donned a baby blue suit with a buckled utility-esque vest by Versace.
