Bottega Veneta Launches a Digital Magazine
After disappearing from social networks, Bottega Veneta is back online with a quarterly digital project.
After its unexpected and much-discussed disappearance from social media, Bottega Veneta has returned to the digital space once again but in a surprising way.
Titled "Issue 01," the fashion house revealed its first-ever digital journal yesterday, an operation led by Daniel Lee. Inside—so to speak—the creative director has included friends and family of the Italian brand, as well as a few unexpected names faces, including Missy Elliot and Derek Blanks. Elsewhere content ranges from a series of sketches and videos of Barbara Hulanicki, the fashion designer and founder of the iconic Biba; street style images of Mariacarla Boscono wearing Bottega Veneta's newest collection by Jonathan Frantini; and other artiwork by Tyler Mitchell and Walter Pfeiffer.
“Social media represents the homogenization of culture,” Lee told The Guardian. “Everyone sees the same stream of content. A huge amount of thought goes into what I do, and social media oversimplifies it.” The launch is a strategic response to Bottega Veneta's departure from Instagram, but of course, breaking the fashion system's rules is no strange feat for Lee. Just last season, in fact, he presented the brand's Salon 01 fashion show in London off the fashion calendar. Here's to the next surprise.
