While menswear looks on the red carpet at Cannes Film Festival are typically limited to the classic tuxedo, many of our favorite celebrities have gone above and beyond the bounds of the traditional dress code with fresh, contemporary twists on the sharply tailored suit.

Stars like Xavier Dolan, Louis Garrel, and Zhou You took to the red carpet sporting elegant looks perfectly befitting the occasion. Dolan and You opted for all-black ensembles to mix up their styles, while Garrel donned a double-breasted suit for a refined take on the classic menswear look. Omar Sy, a member of the Cannes Jury, also went for a double-breasted jacket in white—a look that exemplified Sy's dignified, tasteful air. Despite the warm-weather climate of the French Riviera, You was one of several celebrities to sport a velvet suit, elevating the outfit beyond the typical cotton or silk pieces seen on the red carpet. 

Another major presence on the red carpet was Messi—the dog who made headlines as a fan favorite in the past awards season after appearing in Anatomy of a Fall. Messi was one of the first to appear on the 2024 Cannes red carpet, and just so happened to follow the black-and-white menswear dress code.
