The Celine Fall/Winter 2021 Show is a Poetic Parade
Hedi Slimane unveils the Celine Fall/Winter 2021 with a walk through the gardens of the Château de Vaux le Vicomte.
Titled Parade, the Celine Fall/Winter 2021 collection was inspired by the words of three French poets: Paul Verlaine, who wrote “Her gaze is like the gaze of statues;” Charles Baudelaire, who said, “My youth has been nothing but a tenebrous storm, peered now and then by rays of brilliant sunshine;” and Arthur Rimbaud, who penned, “I alone have the key to this savage parade.”
The particular quotes that Creative Director Hedi Slimane notes speak of beauty, youth, and the wild. Translated into the collection, the fashion is a continuation of the youthful, dressed-down vision of the Spring/Summer 2021 runway that showed in Monaco. Sparkling tops and jackets are paired with distressed denim and crop tops, while sporty puffer coats and sneakers juxtapose pussy-bow blouses. No doubt influenced by the wide-leg pants and proportions that today's younger generation are partial to, this new collection continues on Slimane's mission to upend the ideas of bourgeois style so engrained with the French maison and imbue it with sportive and a touch of grunge. The '90s influence can be seen in the gray sweatshirts, washed denim, dad hats, and muted plaids carried throughout the collection.
