L'OFFICIEL Exclusive: Getting Ready for the 2021 CFDA Awards with Hari Nef and Coach
Get a behind-the-scenes look at Hari Nef's evening at the 2021 CFDA Fashion Awards with Coach and Creative Director Stuart Vevers.
As the first transgender woman to be signed with IMG Worldwide, Hari Nef is here to break barriers in the realm of fashion and beyond. The Coach ambassador accompanied the fashion house's Stuart Vevers, who was nominated for American Accessories Designer of the Year, to this year's CFDA Awards on November 10.
Nef’s partnership with Coach illustrates the classic label's ability to transform naturally with those who best represent authenticity in fashion.
“I am wearing all black, and I am feeling dark and lovely,” Nef said of her custom Coach look for this year’s CFDA Awards.
Donning a vintage-inspired black velvet dress with lace detailing, Nef elegantly stole the show in all-black Coach and thigh-high boots from Brother Vellies. Enveloped in a wool overcoat with gold pocket detailing, an ode to the Coach Heritage Coin Purse, Nef put her own contemporary spin on the classic Coach aesthetic by incorporating elements of night-life and self-expression where she feels most comfortable.
Extending great credit to stylist Chris Horan, stylist assistant and photographer Delaney Williams, makeup artist Nina Carelli, and hair stylist Peter Butler, Nef was passionate about being hands-on in the creation of her Coach uniform. Her key accessory of the evening was a bag from Coach's Spring/Summer 2022 collection, paying homage to the iconic NYC leather bar, The Eagle. She, Horan, and Williams all chose the Coach charms embellishing the bag.
And though Nef, admittedly, has not always been one to pay close attention to what is trending in the fashion realm, she is looking forward to putting her own spin on trends from the Fall/Winter 2021 runways.
“I am paying new attention to gloves, specifically ones that go past the elbow. Fabric, not leather,” Nef said. “I think they are very elegant and can add a certain sense of danger to even a casual look with a t-shirt.”
Nef, who is unafraid to bring her own interpretation of fashion to the table, is proud to be both a friend and fashion confidant to Vevers and his vision for Coach.
“I voted for Stuart, not because we’re friends, but because he makes the best accessories. And not only does he make the best accessories, but he makes them at price points available to everybody. Coach is a luxury brand for everybody, and I think that’s something worth celebrating.”
