Helmut Lang Announces New Editor-in-Residence

Helmut Lang has announced that Alix Browne, a founding editor of downtown NYC fashion glossy V Magazine will replace Isabella Burley, the editor-in-chief of Dazed, as editor-in-residence. Formerly, Browne served as features director of W and style editor of T magazine. The move comes with the brand’s relaunch and the role is meant to replace the more traditional Creative Director title. The idea is that, with a rotational editor, Helmut Lang can keep up with the constant need for newness from consumers. 

In the role, Burley tapped Hood by Air designer Shayne Oliver as the first guest editor for the brand. As his involvement, too, comes to an end, there will be plenty of speculation of who Browne will bring into the fold. In a statement to Business of Fashion, she says, “If you look around at the fashion landscape today, the influence of Helmut Lang, his relevance, has probably never been greater and it’s evident in the way fashion is designed, presented, and communicated [today].” 

It’s unclear if Browne will continue new programs set forth by Burley, including the Helmut Lang Re-Edition program, which saw archival pieces reissued online, and the Seen by: The Artist Series, which made commercial products out of the archival works of different visual artists. As part of the job, Browne will set the the tone and aesthetic for the company. 

Browne is expected to announce her guest designer in February.
