Blackpink's Jennie Kim Makes Her Runway Debut at Jacquemus 15th Anniversary Show
The iconic French label fêted a major milestone on a picturesque Capri rooftop.
Celebrities, fellow fashion designers, models, and fashion critics flocked to the earthy, red clay roof of Villa Malaparte in Capri today, where Simon Porte Jacquemus hosted a historic runway presentation. Stark cliff faces, jagged rock formations, verdant greenery, and the dazzling blue ocean served as the backdrop for the 15th Anniversary Jacquemus show, adding further drama to the already momentous occasion. 15 years have come and gone for the label, full of viral Internet moments, lasting fashion trends, and fresh new philosophies on what the industry should look like.
Of course, Jacquemus is always one to out-do himself, and for this show, he booked a major personality to close out his show. Friend of the house and Internet-beloved icon, Blackpink's Jennie Kim strode out onto the runway clad in a simple, timelessly chic black dress accompanied by an eye-catching aquamarine clutch. The K-Pop singer sported slicked-back hair, the ideal finishing touch to this pared-back, elegant look that at once pays homage to the classic style of French grace that Jacquemus grew up on, but also to the manner of minimalism that his brand has adapted throughout its 15 years of history-making collections. Quite the big get for Jacqemus, as this outing was Kim's first official runway debut.
Celebrating a decade and a half of innovation and unparalleled artistic vision, the Jacquemus Fall/Winter 2024 collection proves yet again that minimalism does not require an absence of color. The Fall/Winter 2024 collection featured shades of butter yellow, lime green and electric blue. Utilizing simple, but effective contrasting colors, the looks pop off the runway, as rich reds stand out against deep blues of the Tyrrhenian Sea. A-line dresses are made visually interesting through sharply cut, expertly tailored edges, and reflect a retro-inspired geometric shape that the eye can't help but follow.
Hoods and headscarves accompany vintage-inspired cat-eye sunglasses in the accessories department, calling back to an era of effortless charm and grace by way of the Parisian model or the French New Wave movie star.
Zebra print and oversized proportions add a touch of playfulness that is woven into the brand's DNA. Its founder, who is known among fellow designers and fashion critics alike for his wit and charm, pulls from unexpected elements of design to create a fresh, new vision of French fashion for the label's devoted base.
