Louis Vuitton's Cruise 2023 Show Dominates San Diego

In the heart of the West Coast, at the Salk Institute in San Diego, Nicolas Ghesquière stages his latest fashion show for this historic French Maison.

Less than a mile from the Pacific Ocean, the Louis Vuitton Cruise 2023 collection made its debut amidst the brutalist architectures of the Salk Institute for Biological Studies designed by Louis I. Kahn in San Diego, California. In a scenario that could only be completed with the setting sun, Nicolas Ghesquière emphasized a new type of woman: a warrior of the future who seemed to have stepped out of one of the films set in a parallel reality.

The show opened with Lous and the Yakuza, a well-known and faithful face to the Maison, wearing a stately dress expertly composed of voluminous flounces and sculptural draperies. Looks with important silhouettes followed, like square bibs with metallic applications, foulard dresses that create all-round intersections, crop tops, and cross bras worn with disheveled skirts. Stiffened austere hoods, shield tops, and fringed jackets set with concave and convex structures. Particular attention went to the materials: PVC, vinyls, glittering leathers, mirrored plates, and reflective lurex to the point of appearing metallic.
