Marc Jacobs Spring 2019
After a scathing piece about Marc Jacob's business and financial woes published in the The New York Times last June, Jacobs' most loyal followers are probably thankful for last night's show. Sure, he made the crowd wait for an hour and a half (which made many guests miss Rihanna's Savage X Fenty show in Brooklyn) but at least he didn't make them wait a full two hours; we all remember that incident in 2007, when Suzy Menkes got so angry about the wait that she called it "A bad, sad show from Marc Jacobs, running two hours late, high on hype and low on delivery," that "symbolized everything that is wrong with current fashion."
The collection was colorful and voluminous as always, including lots of over-the-top-yet-just-enough ruffled and feathered dresses. “This collection is a very light, sheer, pretty version of Fall," says Jacobs. While some of the designer's last collections seemed confused, this one shows a clear return to the style and aesthetic that made him famous. "There are references to designers that have always inspired me and our past collections that have inspired me. Things that I continually go back to.”
