From Marc Jacobs to Dries Van Noten and now Marni, Rogge&rsquo;s ascent marks a generational shift&mdash;and a rare win for women at the top of luxury fashion.

Fashion&rsquo;s game of <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/fashion-creative-directors-guide-jonathan-anderson-dior-loewe" target="_blank" rel="noopener">musical chairs</a> is far from over. The latest shake-up? Marni has officially tapped Meryll Rogge as its new creative director.
Rogge's appointment follows the <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/marni-creative-director-francesco-risso-exits">recent departure of Francesco Risso</a>, who led Marni for nearly a decade. Risso, who took over from founder Consuelo Castiglioni in 2016, carved out a signature style: bold, bizarre, and unapologetically fun. His layered, technicolor collections were love letters to eccentricity, bringing a romantic energy to Marni&rsquo;s quirky legacy.&nbsp;
Rogge, on the other hand, may not be a household name just yet. Still, she brings with her a r&eacute;sum&eacute; packed with sharp credentials and a design language that already feels at home within Marni&rsquo;s universe. In 2020, Rogge launched her unisex, Belgium-based label, known for its offbeat, architectural takes on wardrobe staples, such as deconstructed denim and clashing plaids. Her Fall/Winter 2023 show in Paris showcased this signature mix of cool, subversive, and playful elements. She will continue to lead her namesake brand while taking on her new role at Marni.
But her rise didn&rsquo;t happen in a vacuum; in fact, she&rsquo;s no stranger to legacy fashion. Rogge studied fashion design at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and later moved to New York, spending almost seven formative years working on the design team at <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion-week/marc-jacobs-fall-2025-fashion-week-runway-show-photos">Marc Jacobs</a>. She later returned to Belgium to become Head of Women&rsquo;s Design at <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/men/dries-van-noten-mens-spring-summer-2026">Dries Van Noten</a>. There, she also oversaw the development of its beauty line until this year.&nbsp;

Rogge&rsquo;s appointment, announced this morning by Marni&rsquo;s parent company, OTB Group, is already being celebrated as a timely move. The list of women in comparable roles remains far too short, with few notable exceptions, such as Louise Trotter at Bottega Veneta and Sarah Burton at Givenchy.&nbsp;
&ldquo;We met many highly qualified candidates, confirming how Marni continues to inspire and attract creatives from around the world. Meryll impressed us with the sensitivity she brought to reinterpreting the brand&rsquo;s DNA, offering a contemporary vision that embraces Marni globally and across all its dimensions,&rdquo; OTB Chairman Renzo Rosso said in a statement. &ldquo;I wish her the best in carrying this vision forward with passion, supported by a team and a Group that have always placed creativity at the core of their identity,&rdquo; he added.&nbsp;
And the accolades back that up. In 2021, Rogge was named Emerging Talent of the Year at the Belgian Fashion Awards, and then won Designer of the Year in 2025&mdash;the first woman to receive the title. Just this summer, she also took home the Grand Prix at the 2025 ANDAM Fashion Awards, one of fashion&rsquo;s most prestigious honors.&nbsp;
So what&rsquo;s next for Marni? That&rsquo;s still TBD. While the brand hasn&rsquo;t confirmed when Rogge&rsquo;s first collection will debut, some insiders suspect the label might skip the upcoming Spring/Summer 2026 season&mdash;unless a surprise show is already in the works.
Either way, a new chapter is beginning. And with Rogge at the helm, it&rsquo;s one that promises experimentation, color, and a whole lot of character.
