This year's Met Gala theme is an ode to the one and only Karl Lagerfeld, the iconic German designer known for his work at Chanel, Fendi, and Balmain. Celebrities and fashion connoisseurs alike have respected him for decades, so it is no surprise that the annual fundraiser has recognized Lagerfeld with this honor.
The late designer was all about classic and sophisticated womenswear. Suit jackets and glamorous ball gowns, for example, were staples of his design work. He took inspiration from the style of legendary women, such as First Lady Jackie Kennedy and French singer Vanessa Paradis, and molded his vision board into the collections we see today.
