Proenza Schouler Celebrates 15 Years of Charleston Boutique Hampden
The New York brand headed to Charleston for two days of festivities, including a recreation of their Fall/Winter 2022 runway show.
When Stacy Smallwood founded Hampden in 2007, the Charleston boutique occupied just one storefront, and carried a cutting-edge mix of brands not commonly found on the southern city’s famed King Street. In the 15 years since, the boutique has grown to nearly 10,000 square feet of designer ready-to-wear, accessories, and jewelry, which Smallwood and her team ship to loyal clients around the country. To celebrate its 15th anniversary, Hampden teamed up with New York label Proenza Schouler for a 2-day fête and runway show.
“To us, the Proenza Schouler customer shares the same characteristics no matter where she is from,” say Proenza Schouler designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez. “She is a confident woman, who appreciates fashion, but also values effortlessness and ease.”
To kick off the celebration, guests like Lynn Yaeger, Blair Eadie, and Mickey Boardman headed to a private residence on Johns Island at sunset for a welcome dinner complete with Charleston-inspired fare. The following afternoon, editors and clients alike sat down at the Hampden distribution center, which had been transformed into a venue fit for a Proenza Schouler runway show—one of the first times the brand has staged a show for a specialty boutique.
“Stacy has been a supporter of the brand since the early days,” say McCollough and Hernandez. “She has proven herself to be a well respected leader within the industry, and we’re proud to continue to support her business as she celebrates this milestone.”
