Shrimps Fall 2019

Since launching in 2013, Hannah Weiland’s Shrimps label has quickly garnered a cult following thanks to its quirky and colorful faux-fur coats. For Shrimps’ first Ready-to-Wear runway show Weiland-who created her brand after graduating from the London College of Fashion-sought inspiration from Greek mythology. As a result, the show featured antiquity-style illustrations by artist Ryan Driscoll as the backdrop. The front row was stacked with familiar faces, including model Adwoa Aboah, actress Helena Bonham Carter, model Pixie Geldof, Lady Amelia Windsor, artist Faye Wei Wei and countless influencers.

Originally, the brand started off only producing faux-fur statement coats that focused on fun patterns and textures but today the label has graduated to also offering women’s apparel, hair accessories and pearly handbags. The show showcased more adventurous designs than what we’ve seen in the past from Weiland, who took the runway as an opportunity to go bigger. Faux-fur coats were super-sized and prairie-style maxi dresses were given an edgier color palette, which mainly featured fall tones like yellow, black and pumpkin orange. The show was oozing with texture, featuring lacy gloves, wool socks, silky pants and ruffles galore. One standout piece was a floor-grazing shaggy orange faux-fur coat, paired with matching orange pants and black Converse. Another change? This season, Shrimp is releasing oversized versions of their signature pearl bags.
