Sydney Sweeney Dons Angelina Jolie’s 2004 Academy Awards Gown to the Oscars After-Party
The silky Marc Bouwer gown worn by Angelina Jolie two decades ago is fashioned again by Sydney Sweeney.
At the 2024 Oscars after-party, Sydney Sweeney slipped on a silky ivory gown previously worn by Angelina Jolie in the early aughts. Designed by American designer Marc Bouwer, Jolie originally wore the gown to the 76th Academy Awards in 2004, looking elegant and glamorous as always. The backless gown featured a plunging neckline and delicate ruching and draping around the waist and skirt, making for a dress that complimented both Jolie and Sweeney's figures. Jolie and Sweeney styled and accessorized the look similarly, as they both chose to wear layered necklaces. While layered necklaces are known to be a 2000s trend, they are making a comeback, and Sydney Sweeney's custom-made necklaces by Messika immaculately fashioned the style.
Sweeney's stylist, Molly Dickson, took to Instagram to thank Marc Bouwer and the brand's president, Paul Margolin, for the gown. "Thank you so much Marc + @paulmargolin for letting us into your archives for this special moment!" Dickson wrote.
However, unlike Jolie, who chose to wear the dress with a stylish half-up, half-down hairstyle the night of the 2004 Oscar Awards, Sweeney took this opportunity to debut a voluminous old Hollywood bob.
The night proved to feature many looks from the archives. In addition to Sweeney, Jennifer Lawrence, and Margot Robbie donned vintage pieces as well, wearing a Givenchy dress from Fall/Winter 1996 and a '90s Mugler corset, respectively.
