What to Expect at London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2022
Here's everything we know about the upcoming LFW shows.
Plaid prints and forward-thinking outerwear, British fashion is back. Despite the perpetual gray skies, the Brits are offering up their best spring looks next week at the return of London Fashion Week. The shows are set to run between September 17 and 21.
The shows, a mixture of in-person runways and virtual displays, will feature over 100 designers. On the schedule are favorites like Molly Goddard, Richard Quinn, and Charles Jeffrey, as well as established brands including Dior, JW Anderson, and Jimmy Choo.
The fashion celebration is hosted by the British Fashion Council (BFC), in partnership with Clearpay. Of the event, BFC CEO Caroline Rush said, "The initiative aims to drive footfall back into the capital while reminding consumers of the vibrancy and excitement of London. With involvement from over 100 brands, stores, hospitality venues, and cultural institutions we are looking forward to seeing the whole city come to life.”
Sadiq Khan, London's Mayor, echoed Rush's statement in saying that LFW would be "vital in helping to drive [London's] social and economic recovery." The return of fashion events around the world has helped provide necessary business to a market that suffered greatly during the ongoing pandemic. As such, this year's schedule includes a City-Wide Celebration program that is working with Limited Edition London as part of an initiative by the mayor to stimulate tourism. The program will run through the end of November.
Nensi Dojaka, this year's recipient of the LVMH award for emerging talent, will help kick off London Fashion Week on Friday. Her new collection will be unveiled through a TikTok show space to invitees. Dojaka, a graduate of the famous Central Saint Martins school, is known for her form-fitting mesh designs. Her looks have been worn by nearly every fashion it-girl, including Bella Hadid, Dua Lipa, and Kaia Gerber.
Runway shows are available to stream on the London Fashion Week website, where you can also check out the schedule and see when your favorite designers will be unveiling their new designs.
