The new trailer for Season 2 of HBO's Euphoria has everyone wondering what's to come for your favorite characters.

The past summer marked two years since the premiere of HBO's hit teen drama <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/beauty/euphoria-beauty-makeup-looks-doniella-davy-2019" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Euphoria</a>. The show, which earned <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/zendaya-new-voice-lola-bunny-space-jam-sequel" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Zendaya</a> an Emmy Award, inspired fashion and <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/beauty/euphoria-makeup-biggest-beauty-trend-hbo-zendaya-2019" target="_blank" rel="noopener">beauty</a> trends for a generation. While fans have been eager since the Season 1 finale to find out what happened to their favorite characters, the COVID-19 drew out their wait time. Just days after the cast reunited to film the second season, production was shut down as lockdown orders were implemented around the country.
However, during the quarantine, the show's creator Sam Levinson teamed up with <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/zendaya-valentino-euphoria" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Zendaya</a> and <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/mugler-spring-summer-2021-bella-hadid-hunter-schafer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hunter Schafer</a> to create two <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/stream-euphoria-special-episode-early-hbo-max" target="_blank" rel="noopener">special episodes</a> centered. around their characters, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/stream-euphoria-special-episode-early-hbo-max" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rue Bennett</a> and <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/stream-new-euphoria-episode-early-hbo-max" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jules Vaughn</a>, which aired in December 2020 and January 2021, respectively. As television and film projects move back into production, L'OFFICIEL brings you everything there is to know about the new season of Euphoria.

The new full-length trailer for Season 2 sets up an exciting, colorful, and confusing story for Season 2. Rue is seen walking around with a backpack (contents unknown); Maddy declares that she would look "so sexy" while pregnant; Rue and Jules spend time with a mysterious new friend; and Cassie dresses up like a "country music star."
The trailer also alludes to the possibility of Cassie moving on from her relationship with McKay and into a relationship with Nate&mdash;he tells her, "You're like a relationship kind of girl, right?"&mdash;despite being one of Maddy's best friends.
There's screaming, dramatic stares, police sirens, and several ominous shots of someone holding a gun. Confusing? Yes. Enthralling? Absolutely.

Release Date

The new season premieres January 9, 2022 on HBO Max.&nbsp;

Following their special episodes, Zendaya and Schafer will return in Season 2, alongside fellow main cast members <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/megan-thee-stallion-jacob-elordi-calvin-klein-spring-summer-2021-campaign-instagram" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jacob Elordi</a> as <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/hbo-euphoria-nate-jacob-elordi-2019" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nate Jacobs</a>, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/save-the-date/indya-moore-barbie-ferreira-interview-2019" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Barbie Ferreira</a> as Kat Hernandez, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/pop%20culture/alexa-demie-age-euphoria-actress-birthday" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Alexa Demie</a> as Maddy Perez, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/sydney-sweeney-interview-euphoria-season-2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sydney Sweeney</a> as Cassie Howard, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/2021-critics-choice-awards-best-fashion-moments" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Algee Smith</a> as Christopher McKay, Eric Dane as Cal Jacobs, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/euphoria-angus-cloud-loves-new-york" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Angus Cloud</a> as Fez, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/maude-apatow-photography-euphoria-finale-2019" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Maude Apatow</a> as Lexi Howard, and <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/pop-culture/celebrities-lookalikes-natalie-portman-margot-robbie" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Storm Reid</a> as Gia Bennett.
Actor <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/kelvin-harrison-jr-actor-interview-issue-03" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kelvin Harrison Jr.</a> will also be joining the cast in an unknown role. He was reportedly meant to be in Season 1 but was unable to join due to a scheduling conflict. As a result, Levinson rewrote a new lead character in the script for him. In October 2020, Harrison told <a href="https://theface.com/culture/kelvin-harrison-jr-actor-film-interview-the-trial-of-the-chicago-7-euphoria-colume-4-issue-4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Face</a>, "Sam&rsquo;s still figuring it out, but from the table-reads, I know this character is unlike anything I&rsquo;ve ever seen on the screen." Levinson also spoke to <a href="https://www.gq.com/story/sam-levinson-euphoria-christmas-special-zendaya-interview" target="_blank" rel="noopener">GQ</a> of Harrison's addition to the cast, saying, "I honestly have no idea how to describe this character, but I can say that Kelvin is one of the most talented actors working today."

In February, a casting post on Backstage said that the show was searching for a "Black male actor, aged 18&ndash;25" to play 17-year-old Jamieson. The post described the character as "an outsider. Might have a drug problem, might not. Mischievous. Funny. Unafraid. Sensitive." It added that the actor, "must be comfortable with sexual scenes and nudity." Could this mean a new love interest for one of the characters? Only time will tell. No actors have been announced as cast for the role yet.

In July, the <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/euphoria-season-2-dominic-fike-minka-kelly-lil-meech-1234994047/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hollywood Reporter</a> revealed that Minka Kelly, Dominic Fike, and Demetrius &ldquo;Lil Meech&rdquo; Flenory Jr. would be joining the cast of Season 2. Kelly's character has been described as a "jaded, drugged-out suburban housewife," while Flenory is rumored to be playing a love interest for Maddy.
No details have emerged about Fike's role, however, the singer told <a href="https://variety.com/2021/music/news/dominic-fike-talks-new-album-and-starring-euphoria-season-2-1234962737/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Variety</a> that his character is a "degenerate" and quite similar to himself.&nbsp;&ldquo;I don&rsquo;t have to do much acting,&rdquo; said Fike. &ldquo;He&rsquo;s exactly like me. It&rsquo;s shit I would say and shit I would do.&rdquo;

In the first season finale, viewers were left with a cliffhanger as to Rue and Jules' fates with Rue having a possible overdose and Jules jumping on a train to leave town. While the two special episodes confirm that Rue is alive and Jules has returned home, it's unclear what happened to the other characters in the series.
Cast and crew members have been relatively tight-lipped about what fans can expect from the characters in Season 2. However, some have offered tidbits here and there about their individual characters.

Schafer told <a href="https://ew.com/tv/2019/08/05/euphoria-hunter-schafer-season-1-finale-interview/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Entertainment Weekly</a> that she would like to see Jules focus on herself this season. She said, "I think she learns from experiencing things. And so to experience what she needs to, without being messy, that&rsquo;s from the sort of loving parent/sister relationship I feel like I have with her. That&rsquo;s what I want for her, although who knows how it will play out. I&rsquo;m sure it will be more messy than I would hope for her."
Reid, who plays Rue's younger sister Gia, insinuated that her character will play a larger role in the upcoming season, allowing viewers to get a better sense of her as an individual. "Pertaining to Gia, I feel like this season we'll really get to see who she is outside of just being Rue's little sister," she said to <a href="https://www.elle.com/culture/celebrities/a33576022/storm-reid-euphoria-season-2-aerie-offline-interview/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Elle</a>. "She will really become her own person and her own character and she really is growing up in the show, which I love. I love that we're going to see more of the family dynamic and how Rue has really turned her life upside down and how that might change the course of her life forever."

Sweeney spoke to <a href="https://stylecaster.com/sydney-sweeney-euphoria/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Stylecaster</a> about a jaw-dropping plotline for her character Cassie. "I can tease that, when you ask about season 2, my heart drops. In a you-guys-have-no-idea-what-you&rsquo;re-going-to-watch way," said the actress. "Cassie really needs to get her shit together. I can&rsquo;t say anything else. Cassie has a crazy storyline in Season 2 that I did not expect. Every time I read a new episode that Sam writes, my jaw is on the ground and I can&rsquo;t believe this is something coming out of someone&rsquo;s mind."
