HBO has announced that Issa Rae's hit show "Insecure" will end with its upcoming fifth season.

Sorry <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/music/leikeli47-pays-homage-to-insecure-in-new-music-video" target="_blank">Insecure</a> fans&mdash;HBO has <a href="https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/insecure-final-season-5-hbo-1234883548/" target="_blank">announced</a> today that&nbsp;<a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/pop%20culture/leyna-krow-story-sinkhole-is-new-jordan-peele-issa-rae-movie" target="_blank">Issa Rae</a>&#39;s hit comedy series&nbsp;is set to air later this year&nbsp;for its fifth and final season. The Emmy-nominated show stars Issa Rae (who is also a co-creator, executive producer, and writer), <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/emmy-awards-2020-see-all-the-nominees" target="_blank">Yvonne Orji,</a> Amanda Seales, Jay Ellis, and Natasha Rothwell. Rae and Orji play Issa Dee and Molly Carter, two best friends living in Los Angeles, navigating life, love, and their careers. The series has been praised for its first-person account of the Black female experience, as well as Black female friendship.

Rae spoke to <a href="https://deadline.com/2021/01/issa-rae-insecure-ends-season-5-hbo-1234672938/" target="_blank">Deadline</a> about the final season, saying, &quot;We always planned to tell this story through five seasons, but we couldn&rsquo;t have made it this far without the tremendous support of our audience.&quot;

After news broke about the series&#39; ending, the comedian tweeted out her appreciation for the fans of the show. She wrote, &quot;Very excited to film our fifth and final season! We couldn&rsquo;t have told a complete story without the tremendous support of our audience and the faith of&nbsp;@HBO. See y&#39;all soon!&quot;

Insecure originated with Rae&#39;s viral web series &quot;<a href="https://www.thecut.com/2016/10/issa-rae-on-making-misadventures-of-awkward-black-girl.html" target="_blank">Awkward Black Girl</a>.&quot; With the success of her online show, the actress team up with co-creator Larry Whitmore to write a television pilot. After HBO greenlit production, the series premiered in 2016.&nbsp;In May 2020, the show was renewed for the fifth season, as the fourth season was airing. Production of the upcoming season is scheduled to begin in the coming weeks.&nbsp;
