You Can Now Learn Filmmaking Tips from Luca Guadagnino
Young filmmakers everywhere should get excited, because they now have the opportunity to learn from the director of Call Me By Your Name. For the latest installment of Armani/Laboratorio, Luca Guadagnino (among other talent) will mentor a select group of aspiring talents in a free training course this fall.
Guadagnino may have received his most acclaim to date for Call Me By Your Name, which earned a slew of awards nominations, but the Italian love story starring Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer is actually the third in what the director calls his Desire trilogy, following I Am Love and A Bigger Splash. He is keeping the buzz going with upcoming projects including a CMBYN sequel and a remake of Suspiria, the latter of which releases later this month and stars Dakota Johnson and Guadagnino favorite Tilda Swinton. With the major moment the director is currently having, he seems to be the perfect choice for the second annual installment in Armani's initiative to support emerging talent in film.
The intensive course runs from late November to early December, and will be held in English in Milan. While Guadagnino will be leading directing and production design, rising filmmakers whose talents lie in other areas can learn from key collaborators like David Kajganich, who wrote the screenplay for Suspiria, and Fernanda Perez and Manolo Garcia, who worked on makeup and hair respectively for CMBYN.
In order to apply, hopeful students should develop original material in their discipline relating to one of three proposed themes: The New World of Women, Growing Up, and Untagged. Those interested can view more information and submit work here, but the clock is ticking, as the application closes October 21. While it's a tight deadline, fine-tuning work which contemplates the modern world alongside Guadagnino, who has certainly inspired many young filmmakers with his impressive repertoire, is sure to be an unforgettable way to cap off 2018.
