10 New Movies & TV Shows to Watch in September 2022

The highly anticipated TV series which will make its debut on Amazon Prime on September 2 has made a five-season production commitment worth at least $1 billion, making it the most the most expensive television series ever made. Set thousands of years before the epic Lord of the Rings film series, it is based on author J.R.R Tolkien's history of Middle-earth. We predict this show will be up against Game of Thrones, as one of the most popular fantasy series worldwide. 

In the fourth installment of the After series, the truth about the family lives of Hardin (Hero Fiennes-Tiffin) and Tessa (Josephine Langford) will finally be revealed. If you are a fan of romantic drama and haven't watched these films, we guarantee your eyes will be glued to the TV as you get wrapped up into a boundless love story. It will be in theaters on September 7. 

One for the horror lovers, Barbarian is about a young woman who discovers the rental home she booked is already occupied by a stranger. Starring Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård, and Justin Long, the film is expected to be suspenseful, eerie and pretty disturbing. The release date for Barbarian is September 9. 

Arguably one of the top book to series adaptation of the past decade, The Handmaid's Tale is set for its Season 5 premiere on September 14. Based on the best-selling Margaret Atwood novel, the dystopian film is set in Gilead, a totalitarian society in what used to be part of the United States, where women are treated as property of the state. 

Viola Davis stars in this upcoming historical epic about the Agojie, an all-female warrior unit who protected the African kingdom of Dahomey in the 19th century. Davis and her cast members trained vigrously for nine months to embody their roles, alternating between weapons training, martial arts and weightligting. The Woman King is playing in theaters on September 16. 

Starring Camilla Mendes, Maya Hawke, and Sophie Turner, Do Revenge is a Netflix dark comedy inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's film noir Strangers on a Train. After two students Drea and Eleanor are rejected by their high school because of separately shameful rumors, they form a friendship and agree to go after one another's bullies. Do Revenge hits Netflix September 16.

Pearl, which comes to cinemas on September 16, is a prequel to X, giving an origin story for the titular villain. Mia Goth plays Pearl, a young girl trapped in an isolated family farm, lusting after the glamorous life she has seen depicted in the movies. 

Following the end of the legendary Keeping Up with the Kardashians, the reality stars continued in a new direction with The Kardashians, on Hulu. Season 1 was filled with expected drama and romance, including the Kourtney and Travis love story and Khloé's reaction to Tristan's paternity scandal. For Season 2, releasing on September 22, look forward to exclusive footage of Kourtney and Travis' wedding in Portofino, Italy. 

What will the rumored tension between Olivia Wilde and Florence Pugh come to? The headlines surrounding the director and lead actors have become a melodrama of its own, making the release of this pyschological thriller even further anticipated. With a star-studded Hollywood cast, it captures how a 1950s housewife (Florence Pugh) living with her husband (Harry Styles) in a utopian experimental community begins to worry that his glamorous company may be hiding disturbing secrets. Don't Worry Darling is coming to theaters September 23. 

Ana de Armas plays Marilyn Monroe in the new, long awaited, Netflix biopic Blonde. The Netflix film boldy imagines the tumultuous private life of the Hollywood legend and the price she paid for fame. Blonde comes out on September 23.
