The sixth and final season of The Handmaid's Tale is here, with the first three episodes premiering on Hulu starting Tuesday, April 8. The highly anticipated final season will conclude June Osborne's, portrayed by Elisabeth Moss, story with as many shocking twists and turns as the previous seasons.

The TV series is an adaptation of Margaret Atwood's best-selling novel of the same name, originally published in 1985. The premise of the story emphasizes the dystopian dangers of allowing a totalitarian government to take over. Each season has led viewers and June to the moment of revolution, and this season, the revolution has begun. June faces many challenges as she makes her way back to Gilead, the patriarchal theocratic republic, to start the uprising while having to come to terms with choosing between Luke, portrayed by O.T. Fagbenle, and Nick, portrayed by Max Minghella.

Viewers can also expect to see Serena Joy, portrayed by Yvonne Strahovski, return to the oppressive regime to assume power once again. How Serena's arc will conclude is one thing fans are anticipating most, as she's been a divisive character for fans of the series. Nevertheless, there's a revolution coming to Gilead as the Handmaids, fertile women forced into sexual servitude to produce children for the upper class, take up arms and fight for their freedom.

The dystopian series has won 15 Emmy Awards since it premiered in 2017 amidst a tumultuous socio-political climate and is ending during another harrowing time. This season focuses on the light overcoming the dark and is a reminder of hope and resilience.

Season 6's cast sees the return of Elisabeth Moss, Yvonne Strahovski, O.T. Fagbenle, Samira Wiley, Bradley Whitford, Max Minghella, Ever Carradine, Ann Dowd, Madeline Brewer, Amanda Brugel, Sam Jaeger, and Josh Charles.

The Handmaid's Tale premieres on Hulu on April 8 with weekly episodes available to watch on Tuesdays until the May 27 finale.
