Academy Award winner Jessica Chastain takes on a rousing new role in the long-awaited Apple TV thriller series.&nbsp;

As summer winds down and fall creeps in, it's not just fresh <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/new-york-fashion-week-spring-summer-2026-schedule-designers-shows-what-to-see-do-nyfw" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Spring/Summer 2026 collections</a> from our favorite designers that we're looking forward&mdash;new TV show releases spark just as much excitement, though in the best way possible, this one might have you cowering under your blankets rather than cozying up in them.&nbsp;
Two years after it was initially acquired by Apple TV,&nbsp;The Savant, starring <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/jessica-chastain-movies-interview-eyes-of-tammy-faye-scenes-from-a-marriage" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jessica Chastain</a>, was finally set to premiere this season on Sept. 26, but has since been delayed by the streaming giant.
Chastain&mdash;a revered leading lady in similarly thrilling, complex cinematic insights into crime, injustice, and violence like Zero Dark Thirty&mdash;is also credited on the project as an executive producer.&nbsp;

The series follows Chastain's character, known simply as The Savant, as she goes undercover in online forums in extremist, alt-right corners of the web to identify potential violent hate crimes&mdash;and help prevent them before they happen.
The plot of The Savant is based on a <a href="https://www.cosmopolitan.com/politics/a28483247/is-it-possible-to-stop-a-mass-shooting-before-it-happens/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2019 Cosmopolitan feature,</a> whose writer, Amanda Stanley, has joined the series' team as a consultant. The real Savant reportedly works closely with law enforcement, and as the nature of her occupation demands, keeps her cards close to her chest&mdash;most family and friends aren't aware of what her true job is, only that it involves dealing with domestic terrorism.&nbsp;
For the role, Chastain appears to have swapped out her signature copper-hued hair for a subdued, dark chestnut look perfectly befitting a woman deep undercover.&nbsp;
The streaming platform has been tight-lipped so far about plot details, but per recent releases,&nbsp;The Savant&nbsp;promises to be a "suspenseful, high-stakes" watch.

In The Savant, NFL player-turned-actor Nnamdi Asomugha (Sylvie's Love) stars opposite Chastain and plays her on-screen husband.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Additional cast members include Cole Doman of Gossip Girl's 2021 revival, Ozark regular Jordana Spiro, Trinity Lee Shirley (Da Bottomz),&nbsp;Law &amp; Order alum Toussaint Francois Battiste, and James Badge Dale (King Ivory).&nbsp;
Behind the screen, showrunner and executive producer Melissa James Gibson, one of the minds behind&nbsp;House of Cards, is joined by fellow executive producers Matthew Heineman, Alan Poul, David Levine, Garrett Kemble, and of course, Kelly Carmichael of Chastain's production company, Freckle Films.&nbsp;

The Savant&nbsp;Release Schedule

The Savant was initially slated to release later this fall, with the first two episodes anticipated to drop on Sept. 26, 2025, but just days ahead of the premiere, Apple TV+ announced it would delay the series, with no alternative streaming date made public.&nbsp;
