Meet the Cast of 'The Summer I Turned Pretty'
Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, and Gavin Casalegno star in Amazon Prime's new hit series The Summer I Turned Pretty.
Based on Jenny Han’s book series of the same name, Amazon Prime’s newest television adaptation The Summer I Turned Pretty gave viewers everything they wanted—love triangles, summer getaways, lots of Taylor Swift, and several up-and-coming young stars to watch. The seven-episode series follows breakout star Lola Tung as Isabel "Belly" Conklin as she navigates her newfound sense of self as well as the summer boys. But not just any boys: Conrad and Jeremiah, the sons of her mother’s best friend.
Belly’s been in love with Conrad (Christopher Briney), the mysterious, older Fisher brother, since they were kids, but as summer comes and goes, Belly finds herself attracting the attention of some new suitors, including Conrad's younger brother, Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno).
If you've already finished Season 1 and are patiently waiting for TSITP Season 2, don’t worry, L’OFFICIEL’s got you covered. Here’s everything you need to know about the cast. Oh, and yes, they’re all friends in real life.
The Summer I Turned Pretty is 19-year-old Tung’s first major acting credit. Raised in New York City, the breakout star graduated from LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, and was attending Carnegie Mellon University when she was cast for the role. Apparently, Han called her personally to tell her that she got the part.
Briney portrays Conrad Fisher, the oldest and oh-so-mysterious Fisher brother in The Summer I Turned Pretty . Briney is currently based in New York City but was born in Connecticut. In 2020, he graduated from Pace University in New York City with a BFA in Acting for Film, TV, Voiceover and Commercial, according to his personal website. (Feel free to watch his acting reels, you’re welcome). Similar to Tung, this is one of his first major roles, aside from short films and other theatrical productions. But according to IMDb, he will be featured in the upcoming film Dali Land.
The 22-year-old actor plays Jeremiah Fisher, the younger, more outgoing Fisher brother in The Summer I Turned Pretty. Casalegno has multiple acting credits already under his belt, including a role as a younger version of Damon in The Vampire Diaries, and a role in the 2014 film Noah, starring Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connelly. Casalegno is quite active on social media, often sharing TikToks with over two million followers.
Belly’s older—and sometimes annoying, sometimes overprotective—brother Steven, who also happens to be best friends with Conrad and Jeremiah, is played by Sean Kaufman, whose acting credits include Manifest, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and FBI: Most Wanted. Along with Tung, Kaufman also attended high school at LaGuardia High School, and then went on to attend Purchase College’s Acting Conservatory.
Belly and Steven’s mother, Laurel, is played by Jackie Chung, whose previous work includes Grey’s Anatomy, Station 19, and Someone Else. Along with the love triangles and teen drama in the show, viewers also see an important storyline about friendship revolving around Laurel and Susannah “Beck” Fisher, portrayed by Rachel Blanchard.
Blanchard brings a magnetic energy to the show as Conrad and Jeremiah’s kind and loving mother, Susannah. But, if you feel like you’ve seen her before, you may know the 46-year-old actress from her role as Cher Horowitz in the Clueless television series from 1996 to 1999, her recurring role on the popular ‘90s Nickelodeon television show Are You Afraid of the Dark?, and more.
While Belly tends to be more quiet and reserved, her best friend Taylor is an absolute firecracker. She is a fierce, loyal, fashionista who was brought to life by actress Rain Spencer. The actress has had an exciting year career-wise, as she also recently starred in the film Good Girl Jane which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Mills plays Shayla, Steven’s love interest throughout the season. According to her LinkedIn page, Mills is currently attending Columbia University in New York City and is studying Neuroscience. As a child model and actor, she has worked with brands like Nike, H&M, Tommy Hilfger, and more, per her profile. But just like Tung and Briney, this appears to be her first major role, according to IMDb.
As viewers see Belly and Conrad’s romance play out throughout the summer, viewers also see Conrad paired up with Nicole—Belly’s debutante “big sister"— played by Madison. The actress has previously appeared in The Wonder Years, Crazy Neighborhood Moms, First Wives Club, and more.
And last, but not least: Cam Cameron, Belly’s sweet, whale-loving love interest. Like Tung and Kaufman, David Iacono attended LaGuardia High School and graduated in 2020. With multiple acting credits to his name like Grand Army and The Flight Attendant, it’s no wonder so many viewers jumped on the Cam Cameron bandwagon.
