For film lovers everywhere, it's time to start thinking about the Venice Film Festival. The renowned event is taking place for the 82nd time, making it the oldest film festival in the world. Starting today and running through September 6, some of the most talented directors from around the world will gather on Lido Island in Venice to debut their latest films. We are on the edge of our seats to see what names like Yorgos Lanthimos and <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion-week/best-dressed-celebrities-bal-d-ete-paris-couture-week-musee-des-arts-decoratifs" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sofia Coppola</a> bring to the festival, as we know that Venice often serves as an Oscar indicator.
There are 21 films in Competition, 30 Out of Competition, 19 in the Orizzonti section, and 69 immersive works in the lineup. The 82nd Venice Film Festival will not only celebrate the art of cinema but will also question, challenge, and reinvent it.
It is a year of great returns&mdash;from Guillermo Del Toro to Yorgos Lanthimos in competition, Sofia Coppola and <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/queer-film-explainer-luca-guadagnino-daniel-craig-2024" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Luca Guadagnino</a> Out of Competition&mdash;and dazzling debuts, with six directors competing for the Golden Lion for the first time, including Kaouther Ben Hania, Leonardo Di Costanzo, and Hong Kong director Shu Qi.

The 82nd Venice International Film Festival will take place on the Venice Lido from today, Wednesday, August 27, to Saturday, September 6, 2025.

<h2>What Films Will Premiere At the 2025 Venice Film Festival?</h2>

There are plenty of titles to look for at this year's festival, coming from some of the biggest directors in Hollywood. In Competition is Benny Safdie's The Smashing Machine,&nbsp;starring Dwayne Johnson, which follows the life of the famous 90s MMA fighter, Mark Kerr. Also in competition is Noah Baumbach's movie, Jay Kelly, which stars heavy hitters <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/pop-culture/george-clooney-young-photos-90s" target="_blank" rel="noopener">George Clooney</a> and Adam Sandler. After the Hunt, by Luca Guadagnino, is an Out-of-Competition film inspired by the #MeToo movement.
