The past few decades have provided pop culture fanatics with plenty of legendary icons and celebrity crushes, but chief among them for multiple generations is Tom Welling, who has been a heartthrob for teens in the 2000s and today.
As a high school athlete, Welling showed little interest in going to college and instead became a construction worker until he began modelling men's clothing in 1998. In 2001, he transitioned to television acting in the CBS&nbsp;legal drama&nbsp;Judging Amy (1999-2005), as a love interest to the titular character. In October of that year, Welling was cast as <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/superman-legacy-david-corenswet-details-cast-filming" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Clark Kent</a> (aka <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/all-the-actresses-who-have-played-lois-lane-in-superman" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Superman</a>) in the superhero drama Smallville (2001-2011). The pilot was the highest-rated debut for the WB, with 8.4 million viewers, propelling Welling's career forward at a rapid rate. He quickly became a rising star and won the Teen Choice Award as "Choice Breakout Star (Male)" in 2002, and won the Teen Choice Award as "Choice TV Actor (Action Adventure)" for his role as Clark Kent.
In 2003, Welling made his feature film debut as Charlie Baker in the family comedy&nbsp;Cheaper by the Dozen (2003), alongside Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt. While working on&nbsp;Smallville&nbsp;in 2005, the actor co-starred in the horror film&nbsp;The Fog (2005) as Nick Castle. He reprised his role as Charlie Baker in&nbsp;Cheaper By The Dozen 2 (2005) that same year.
While in&nbsp;Smallville,&nbsp;Welling made his directorial debut with the episode "Fragile", and then directed several other episodes, including the show's 150th episode "Apocalypse" and two episodes on the show's final season, "Patriot" and "Booster".
In 2019, Welling reprised his role as Clark Kent in the&nbsp;Batwoman (2020-2022) episode of the CW Arrowverse crossover event "Crisis on Infinite Earths", alongside his Smallville co-star Erica Durance as Lois Lane. In 2022, Welling and fellow Smallville actor Michael Rosenbaum launched the Smallville recap podcast Talkville (2022-present). &nbsp;
Most recently, Welling has been confirmed to star in dramedy&nbsp;Chasing Summers, set to be released in 2026, alongside <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/lola-tung-street-style-casual-outfits-the-summer-i-turned-pretty" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Lola Tung</a>. There's no doubt that the Lucifer&nbsp;actor has several notable credits under his belt, and now he will be made visible to newer eyes with this new project.
