The Original James Bond, Iconic Actor Sean Connery has Passed Away
According to his family, Sir Sean Connery died today at the age of 90 while on vacation in the Bahamas as reported by the BBC. The legendary Scottish actor and producer had a prolific career on and off the silver screen, but is most known for his role of the original James Bond, having starred in seven 007 films—from Dr. No to You Only Live Twice, plus Diamonds Are Forever and Never Say Never Again—between 1962 and 1983. In addition to the Bond series, Connery made academy award winning performances in Murder on the Orient Express (1974), The Untouchables (1988), Finding Forrester (2000), and more, and earned one Academy Award, two BAFTA Awards, and three Golden Globes, including the Cecil B. DeMille Award and a Henrietta Award. In 1999, he received a lifetime achievement award in the U.S. with a Kennedy Center Honor, and a year later he was knighted during the 2000 New Year Honours for services to film drama. His son commented that the actor had been "unwell for some time," and passed away peacefully in his sleep.
