One of the biggest trends for 2021, according to Pinterest's annual trend report, is "skinimalism," a concept proposing a minimalist beauty routine to leave the skin beautiful and healthy without being overwhelmed. As they are less accustomed to excessive beauty maintenance, the trend is perfect for men who want to take care of their skin, but in a practical way. According to Jamar Tejada, the naturopathic pharmacist and founder of Che Figo, a brand of natural, vegan, and sustainable grooming products for men, skincare is an essential habit for maintaining a healthy complexion, even for men.

''Because of hormonal differences, the skin of women and men is quite different. Male skin is usually thicker and has a more irregular texture, with a tendency to oiliness, and therefore requires special care. The other great enemy of male skin is the habit of shaving every day, which, although the exfoliation caused is positive on the one hand, on the other hand it can cause irritation and the formation of ingrown hairs, so having daily care is important to keep the health of the skin, in addition to a uniform and beautiful appearance," says Tejard.

According to the specialist, a practical daily skincare for men, like women, prioritizing cleansing, hydration, and sun protection, with a few specific changes.

Cleanse:

To start your routine, wash your face well. Opt for products with cell renewing action to prevent ingrown hairs. “For men who want to optimize their time even more and search for practicality, the market offers functional shampoos for cleaning the face, hair, and beard, with antioxidants, as well as moisturizing and fortifying action. Always prioritize natural products, which don't sensitize the barrier of the capillary and dermal hydro-lipid mantle," explains Tejada.

Hydrate:

If you are in the habit of shaving, do it after cleansing and then treat and moisturize your face. Here, it is worth betting on products that control oiliness, soothe the skin, treating irritation and redness, and also increase skin hydration and moisturizing, such as balm. Tejada says, "For a plus effect, a balm can still be used to soften longer beards, adding volume and texture."

Protect:

Finish with a high SPF sunscreen and fluid texture, so as not to influence oil production. "This step is indispensable and must be adopted every day, even in the most cloudy weather," guides the expert.
