9 Spring/Summer 2023 Men's Fashion Trends

Denim on denim is controversial, to say the least. It gained its popularity in the 2000s with iconic photos of Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears sporting the look. However, in the past 10 years, many say it’s too much, too blue. This season, designers proved that its previous popularity was for a reason. By ensuring that both garments had the same denim wash, a striking two-piece set was curated and an iconic look was revealed. With Raf Simons stepping in as co-director for Prada alongside Miuccia Prada, even the traditionally sophisticated label seemed to experiment with more "normal" materials including denim. Put together correctly, the look is not too much in any sense, but rather a classic material that layered together becomes style. 

An overarching theme of many of the Spring/Summer 2023 collections is youthful nostalgia and many garments designed specifically embody this energy. Whether it's Prada with oversized gingham, Louis Vuitton with vibrant primary colors and chunky beads, or Dolce & Gabbana with sports fan t-shirts, they all seem to reminisce adolescence through fashion. Acknowledging a sense of childhood brings fun and excitement to these collections, showcasing that it is never too late to experiment with style and play dress-up in your closet.

Crochet is all the rage. The variety of designs and the delicate details mean that styling any crochet garment will elevate your look. For this menswear season, a particular focus was placed on black crochet tops. Almost all the menswear designers this season featured a version of the trench coat in their collection, ensuring the preservation of its distinct shape and structure around the shoulders. Flowy pants, made in a range of colors and materials, are not only comfortable but extremely stylish. This relaxed fit does not detract from its style at all and only serves to highlight the duality of the garment. Wearing long pants in summer may seem like a difficult and sweaty option but with their breathable material and perfect width, these flowy garments highlight that they are fit for hot weather.

Jorts, or jean shorts, are back, whether you like it or not. They never really left to be honest, but this season they are back and baggier than ever before. The proper pair of jorts are fitted yet big, baggy, and long. Perhaps it’s the resurgence of "dad style" that has prompted this return but from Givenchy to Louis Vuitton, these luxury labels are really placing them in the spotlight. This item which was once deemed as the core of an unfashionable father is now worn regularly by celebrities including Justin Bieber, making them the ultimate stand-out piece for your wardrobe this spring. 

Nature finds its way as inspiration for the runway every season. From Loewe’s coats spurting with grass to Dior’s dreamy garden-inspired collection, elements of the natural world are ever-present in garments of this season. Spring, the beginning of a new natural cycle also means the transformation of your wardrobe in preparation for warmer, lighter weather. 

The one crossbody bag that you own and wear with every other outfit is really not going to work anymore. In almost all collections, bags in different styles, colors, shapes, and sizes were paired with the label’s garments.
