Ariana Grande's petal will drop this Friday, one of the most anticipated pop albums this summer.&nbsp;

Ariana Grande is entering a new musical era. Her upcoming eighth studio album, petal, will be released this July 31, with BabyDoll Music and Republic Records.&nbsp;Petal is Grande's first full-length album in two years, since the release of her Billboard 200-topping album Eternal Sunshine in 2024. In April, after weeks of dropping clever hints about the new album, Grande took to her Instagram to announce the news and the official album cover, captioning the post "petal 7.31."

The Grammy winner is still on the road for her Eternal Sunshine Tour this summer, featuring stops in Montreal, Chicago, and London until September.&nbsp;
So far, only one track from petal has debuted before the album's release date, "Hate That I Made You Love Me," which charted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 when it came out on May 29, 2026. For Grande, the lead single is "one of my favorite songs i'll ever write," she wrote in an Instagram post announcing the track. To the delight of fans, Grande has even sung "Hate That I Made You Love Me," during the ongoing&nbsp;Eternal Sunshine Tour.&nbsp;
Today, the singer released a new petal visualizer to her Instagram in a black-and-white clip that teased the cinematic universe she's built around the album, where Grande plays the role of an up-and-coming creative named Pepper. The teaser ends with the release date of&nbsp;petal, and a note saying, "shot entirely on VistaVision," which is a high-resolution wide-screen format commonly used by films from the 1950s.

While the name might sound sweet and delicate, petal will explore Grande's experiences about growing through challenging experiences in her life. "It’s definitely from a place that I have been, maybe, like, too shy or polite to tap into before, and this kinda just feels like, ‘f–k it,'" the singer said.&nbsp;
In an earlier video posted to her Instagram on May 7, the singer explained more about the album and her creative process: “It’s kind of about breaking up with all different kinds of negative attachments, whether it’s my own monsters in my own head, external voices, things that no longer serve me."
Grande executive produced petal and co-wrote the album with her longtime creative collaborator Ilya—they've worked together since Grande's 2018 album Sweetener. "It was a writing experiment for me to use that as the template, so that I could be talking about one thing, sharing something, and people could use it however they want, and apply it to their own life," she continued.&nbsp;

As if Grande doesn't have enough on her plate, she is also taking on alleged hackers who have stolen and sold her unreleased music as well as private photos and video footage, in a lawsuit filed yesterday in Los Angeles County Superior Court. The lawsuit states that 45 songs were stolen in 2023, and similar leaks have taken place throughout Grande's musical career. &nbsp;
Earlier this year, the&nbsp;Wicked star <a href="https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/ariana-grande-jokes-need-extra-brain-drop-new-music-1235497158/">joked</a> about how she "would need an extra brain" if she wanted to release new music this summer, and she's definitely not wrong because her calendar for the next few months is absolutely full to the brim. After finishing out her&nbsp;Eternal Sunshine Tour, Grande will appear in her next film,&nbsp;Focker-In-Law, alongside Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller, which releases in theatres this Thanksgiving—all while running her cosmetics company, r.e.m. Beauty. In early 2027, the singer will return to her musical theatre roots in her West End debut for a revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park With George.&nbsp;
