Listen to Ava Max's Brilliant Cover of Fallin' by Alicia Keys
“Sweet but Psycho” star Ava Max has probably been playing on your radio for months now, and the infectious earworm is a playful take on feminine stereotypes. With her recent cover, however, Ava Max has proved she has the range beyond club-thumping candy pop, premiering her own rendition of Alicia Key's iconic “Fallin.’” The single put Alicia Keys on the map in 2001, and now Ava Max has added a unique twist to show off her own powerhouse vocals.
“Alicia Keys’ 'Fallin’’ is one of the first songs that got me into songwriting,” Max said of the cover. “She’s not only a strong female force in the industry but also an incredibly powerful vocalist who I admire.”
The cover mixes heady R&B vocals, true to the original, with acoustic guitar and an emotive performance by Max, known for her theatrical style. Although she stays seated in a chair the entire time, her voice seems to fill the space of the stage. Ava Max's formidable vocal talent no doubt comes from her mother, who was a trained opera singer. Dominating both dancefloor anthems and more stripped-down pieces like this one, Ava Max is no doubt an artist you won't stop hearing about.
