Beyoncé's 'Renaissance' Album is Getting a Visual
The Queen of visual albums seems to be releasing one for her well-applauded album Renaissance.
In June, Beyoncé hinted with clues about a new album. The singer poked fun at fans, asking, “What is a B7?” causing a lot of chaos and confusion. On June 15, Beyoncé finally gave the Beyhive the news they'd been waiting for: new music was coming.
The 16-track album is titled Renaissance. Fans were able to pre-save the album and purchase mystery boxes of merchandise. On June 20, Queen B released the lead single from the new album called "Break My Soul." The track is a blend of modern and classic house music—giving everyone something to dance to. Since then, fans have been questioning what's next, and the queen has answered.
The vocalist unveiled the tracklist and composer credits for the album on July 20, just over a week before the album's launch, and the Beyhive is buzzing over the tracks "Thique" "Pure/Honey" and "Church Girl." Fans also noticed that Canadian rapper Drake is credited on the track "Heated." Does that mean another collab is coming from this iconic duo?
The songstress and rapper collabed in 2013 for her self-titled album Beyoncé. Their song "Mine" was a fan favorite on the album, and there's been speculation about when they were going to work together again. Drake recently released his album this year, and it was full of house-inspired tracks. Will they give us the dance song of the summer?
The record finally hit the general public on July 29. Since then, everyone's been in an uproar about the Queen's dance-centered album. Just when we thought it couldn't get any better, Beyoncé just teased a visual album right before the weekend. For track one of her album, "I'm That Girl," Beyoncé released a short teaser video with something that didn't go unnoticed by fans.
Along with Beyoncé strutting around in her custom metal bust alongside a horse, the video contained a quick montage of 16 different looks from the singer. Fans are speculating that each look is for a corresponding song on the album. See the visual down below:
In her 2021 Harper's Bazaar cover story, Beyoncé hinted that she wanted this album to be used as an escape. “I think we are all ready to escape, travel, love and laugh again. I feel a renaissance emerging, and I want to be part of nurturing that escape in any way possible.”
This is the "Formation" singer's latest studio album following the release of her 2016 masterpiece Lemonade. Since then, she has also released the collaborative album Everything Is Love with her husband Jay-Z, Homecoming: The Live Album from her 2018 Coachella performance, and The Lion King: The Gift soundtrack for the eponymous film as well as Black Is King, a visual album based on said soundtrack.
Not only has the music icon been hard at work these last six years, but she also became the Recording Academy's most awarded singer, most-awarded female artist, and second-most-awarded artist in Grammy history at the 2021 Grammys after her Best Rap Performance win for "Savage" with Megan Thee Stallion. She also received her first Oscar nomination earlier this year for her song "Be Alive" on the King Richard soundtrack.
