HAIM Part Ways with Agent After Being Paid 10 Times Less Than Male Artist
In a move of unadulterated badassery, sisters Este, Danielle, and Alana Haim told Grazia that they fired their agent after learning that a male artist was paid 10 times more than them at an unnamed festival last year. In case you were wondering, no, the male artist was not a better-known name. In fact, the band was billed just under him.
“We had been told that our fee was very low because you played at the festival in the hope that you’d get played on the radio,’ Danielle Haim said to Grazia. Her sister Alana added; “We didn’t think twice about it, but we later found out that someone was getting paid ten times more than us. And because of that, we fired our agent. It’s fucked up not even to be paid half the same amount. But to be paid a tenth of that amount of money? It was insane.”
Hats off to these girls for bringing attention to the ever-present pay gap in the music industry. Read the entire interview here.
