Our favorite up-and-comer collaborated with Viceroy and Le Youth on remixes for the first batch of singles off her forthcoming album. 

If you weren&rsquo;t already listening to Tessa Violet, you need to start right now (also, what were you even doing not listening to her?). The canary-haired alt-pop star has honestly given you no choice with this fresh batch of remixes she just dropped in collaboration with DJs extraordinaire Le Youth and Viceroy. Tessa had previously released the original versions of all three songs on her EP <a href="https://ffm.to/badideasactone">Bad Ideas (Act I)</a>, which has served as an amuse-bouche of sorts for her full album which is due out this fall.

These remixes are the perfect addition to your weekend playlist.&nbsp;With Viceroy, she took&nbsp;her most recent release &quot;I Like (the idea of) You&quot; in a funkier direction, and, honestly, I dare you not to wiggle your hips to this song. I dare you. Le Youth took her&nbsp;single &quot;Crush&quot; and gave it an ethereal-synth twist, which slows it down just the right amount. Tessa herself said that her goal for &quot;Bad Ideas (Lo Fi)&quot; was to make the song feel sweeter and more intimate. Mission accomplished.&nbsp;&nbsp;As of today, all of these remixes are available on your music streaming platform of choice.

We spoke with Tessa briefly to learn about these remixes, her transition from YouTuber to full-fledged music sensation, and her love of Marie Kondo.

Ryan Killian Krause: Tell us about these remixes. What vibe were you going for with them?

Tessa Violet: Very much handed them off to the super talented Le Youth and Viceroy! They absolutely killed it. For&nbsp;&quot;Bad Ideas (Lo Fi),&quot; I wanted something that felt sweeter and more intimate.

&nbsp;

RKK: What can we expect from Act II and Act III of Bad Ideas?

TV: We&#39;ve decided to release the album as a whole this fall instead!

&nbsp;

RKK: You just leaked a new song from the album earlier this week. What made you do that?

TV: I&#39;m playing it on tour and I wanted people to be familiar with it before the show.&nbsp;It just felt like the move.

&nbsp;

RKK: How would you describe your sound? How would you describe yourself as an artist?

TV: I guess as a genre, I&#39;d call myself alternative,&nbsp;but indie pop or alt-pop also fit. As an artist, all my songs are very personal, that&#39;s a part of the writing I really enjoy: getting down to the nitty-gritty of it.

&nbsp;

RKK: Who are your musical inspirations?

TV: I&#39;ve followed Jack Antonoff for a long time. Fun.&nbsp;was and continues to be a big influence on how I write. Additionally Taylor Swift, Bleachers, and TOP.

&nbsp;

RKK: You got your start as a YouTuber.&nbsp;How has your career evolved since then and what has that experience been like?

TV: Yes! I started blogging in 2007 and did it full time till 2017 when I transitioned to music. It was great! Early on in YouTube, it was kind of a nerdy thing to do, and when you told people you were a vlogger or a YouTuber... those just weren&#39;t things people were familiar with then. My experience has been largely positive. YouTube was amazing then and music is amazing now. If there&#39;s&nbsp;anything negative about it, it would only be that there&#39;s a stigma attached to artists trying to transition from YouTube to music.&nbsp;Venues and other publications will still list me as &quot;Tessa Violet, American Vlogger&quot;&nbsp;when I haven&#39;t been a vlogger for&nbsp;almost three years now. But, even so, I wouldn&#39;t change it. Happy to have done what I did then, and extremely happy to be doing what I do now.

RKK: You seem to be big on using social media -&nbsp; what&rsquo;s your favorite platform to engage with your fans?&nbsp;

TV: I love Twitter. It&#39;s my favorite.

&nbsp;

RKK: After Crush was released, you were named YouTube&rsquo;s Artist on the Rise. What was that like for you?

TV: Incredible. So grateful to have been picked for that. Shoutout to YouTube!

&nbsp;

RKK: We love the yellow hair. What was the inspiration there? Is it specific for the Bad Ideas era?

TV: My hair bleaches pretty yellow, so one of the times I was bleaching it when I was going pink I was like, &quot;oh hey what about yellow?!&quot; Then a year later, I made the jump! Yes, yellow feels very &quot;Bad Ideas&quot; to me.

&nbsp;

RKK: We hear you&rsquo;re a Marie Kondo fan girl&hellip; let&rsquo;s chat tidying up. What are your favorite hacks?

TV: Oh man, I love the idea of pulling out everything, then going through one at a time. It&#39;s so satisfying to pare down. I also love folding&nbsp;everything so you can see it when you open your drawers. So clever!
