Lady Gaga Wears Schiaparelli Couture with Giant Dove to Sing National Anthem
While many have had the honor (and for some, embarrassment) of singing the US national anthem, Lady Gaga's special performance of the song at today's Presidential Inauguration for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris had a special meaning.
The star, who has long been a supporter of Biden, appeared in a ladylike Haute Couture ensemble custom designed by Daniel Roseberry for Schiaparelli.
Gaga's fitted navy jacket topped a flowy washed red silk faille, making the singer look more like a political ambassador than a pop star. On her chest the musician donned a gilded dove brooch, no doubt a message of peace and unity to a country torn by political division. Like Biden and Harris' outfits, symbology was clearly intentional.
"As an American living in Paris, this ensemble is a love letter to the country I miss so dearly and to a performer whose artistry I have so long admired," said the designer, who most recently made headlines for creating Kim Kardashian's "hulk" dress for Christmas, in a statement. "Maison Schiaparelli is honored to have this chance to dress the iconic Lady Gaga on this historic Inauguration Day. God Bless Lady Gaga and God Bless America.”
The number, which wasn't her first time wearing Schiaparelli, follows Gaga's previous appearance last night at the Washington Memorial with fellow performer Jennifer Lopez. The A Star is Born lead posted a photo in an all-white custom cape dress courtesy of Givenchy by Matthew Williams.
Indeed, the land of the free and the home of the brave.
