Are The Weeknd and Angelina Jolie Dating?

The Weeknd surely seems glad to be acquainted with Angelina Jolie, as the two were spotted exiting high-end LA restaurant Giorgio Baldi together Wednesday night, leaving many curious about the state of their relationship. The two were rumored to have spent hours together over dinner inside, but ended up leaving separately to avoid being photographed together. Jolie left the restaurant just a few minutes before The Weeknd, sporting a black silk dress underneath a trench coat, while the “Blinding Lights” singer, born Abel Tesfaye, wore denim with a black shirt and black boots.

Because The Weeknd is branching out into the Hollywood film and television scene, it would make sense for this night out to have been a simple business meeting with the Oscar-winning actress and producer. In fact, besides singing, he can now add acting and film and television writing to his list of hobbies, as he acted in Uncut Gems, co-wrote an episode of American Dad last year, and is set to star in and co-write upcoming HBO cult drama The Idol with Euphoria creator Sam Levinson. “They’re clearly not trying to hide [the dinner date],” a source close to The Weeknd told Page Six. “He’s definitely focused on getting to the movie business. He has the new HBO series he’s starring in.” Both stars also have ties to Ethiopia, as Jolie’s daughter Zahara was born there while The Weeknd’s parents are Ethiopian immigrants.

However, many clues point to the fact that The Weeknd has potentially been crushing on Jolie at least five years prior to this dinner. In his 2016 song “Party Monster,” he sings: “Ooh, she mine, ooh girl, bump and grind / Ooh, she mine, ooh girl, bump a line / Angelina, lips like Angelina / Like Selena, a** shaped like Selena.” One year earlier, he mentioned Brad Pitt in “Starboy,” saying: “Let a n**ga Brad Pitt, legend of the fall took the year like a bandit,” so it’s clear that the two have been on his mind for years now.

Before this dinner meeting with Jolie, the popstar-turned-actor dated supermodel Bella Hadid off and on from 2015 to 2019, and Selena Gomez in between for 10 months. In September 2016, Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt, and the two have been disputing over custody of their six children since then. Navigating relationships post-divorce, Jolie has recently been rekindling her connection with ex-husband Jonny Lee Miller, as she was photographed leaving his Dumbo apartment last month.

Whether this meeting between Jolie and The Weeknd was for connecting over business or something more, we’re excited to see what these two are planning together.
