Close your eyes and think of any teen movie in the '80s, and chances are members of the Brat Pack had a starring role. Created by New York Magazine writer David Blum, the Brat Pack consisted of Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, young Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, and Ally Sheedy (with other unofficial members including Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Cruise). The famous set of friends reigned over '80s cinema and became the faces of coming-of-age movies throughout the decade. On the lineup of notable films the Brat Pack starred in are Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, The Outsiders, and St. Elmo's Fire to name a few.

Ultimately, the negatively written feature story from Blum about the group caused the friends to eventually go their separate ways—an article that Blum himself later admitted he shouldn't have published. While the Brat Pack may be no more, the lasting impact left by the group remains.

While each Brat Pack actor found success, it was a young Rob Lowe—who turns 60 today—who is always a part of the cultural zeitgeist. Lowe has left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry with his versatile talents and timeless charm, and his suprising ability to look forever young. Rob Lowe has also proven himself as a producer, author, and philanthropist, solidifying his status as a Hollywood icon.

Young Rob Lowe also contributed to several under-the-radar gems within the Brat Pack genre. One notable example is 1987's Square Dance, where Lowe portrays a country boy opposite Winona Ryder's small-town girl, delivering a nuanced performance that showcases his range as an actor. Another lesser-known film is About Last Night... from 1986, and based on a David Mamet's play. Yyoung Rob Lowe's portrayal of a commitment-phobic young man navigating relationships in Chicago adds depth to the ensemble cast. These films, while perhaps not as celebrated as some of Lowe's other works, offer insight into his talent and versatility as a member of the Brat Pack generation.
